I have a problem I am struggling with. I am not struggling with partying, in fact I've never been to a college party before. What I am struggling to understand is why some Christians themselves are involved in college parties.

What is the biblical stance on college parties? I know the bible speaks against orgies (another word for party), but what about modern parties? From what I hear, college parties are filled with uncontrolled drinking, sex, and drugs. It reminds me of modern sodom and gomorrah. Now I get the definition of college partying from friends that party, they tell me what they do, so that's why I think parties involve what I posted above.

Now why are brothers and sisters involved in this type of activity? I can understand if they go to hang out with their friends, but what about if they are participating in the drunkenness, sex, and drugs? Now that is obviously sinful, but what about plain attending parties?

I just don't understand what is the biblical stance on this huge activity in college.
I went to a state university and saw people in the dorm drunk and coming and going from parties all the time. I never went to any and got involved in a christian organization instead, but I was in the minority. We serve a different master and have to live according to the standards in the Word, not the world. As to why some believers do this, I think some are just immature and others care more about what others think than what God thinks. Some people do it to please people and others do it to find someone to date or to sleep with even though they are believers.

I personally don't see anything wrong with going along to parties. I see the point that a lot of you make about running away from any kind of sin, but I think also we are called to go into these kinds of places in the world. Jesus gave many examples of doing this, and we should follow this example. Now if you particularly struggle with drunkeness or something that you know you will be faced with, than maybe it would be better to not go to the parties. But if these aren't issues for you, then I believe that it is good to go to college parties. I've particularly found being at an intellectual University, that many of the parties I attend end up with theological debates with various people, which is surely a good thing.

I've seen parties that range from a large group of friends getting together to watch movies to a huge group of strangers getting drunk and stumbling around trying to look cool. And I've seen most of what is in between.

Some college parties are more tame than the average adult cocktail party. Some are full of illegal activity.

I see nothing wrong with college parties, provided they do not get out of hand. Very large or anonymous parties can be dangerous, and can create an enviroment ripe for alcohol poisioning, rape, fights, and other horrible things.

I think it is sad that so many judge college parties and those who go them as being sinful or bad. There is a whole spectrum of college parties. Those people who don't go to parties and who are prejudgiced against those who do go can be worse than anyone else.

I've been to a lot of parties where nothing bad has happened - no hard drugs, no one getting drunk, everyone just sitting around playing games or watching movies or having long talks, everyone having a responsible way to get home.

What is worse... going to a college party where everyone just has some good wine and a good time (with no sex or drugs), or judging those who do without really knowing what kind of college party they go to?

God has prepared a kingdom with Jesus as it's supreme ruler, do you know that? Do all of you really know that? Or have you missed the Bible's main theme?

Do you know that all who have ever lived will be given an opportunity to live eternally, all, even the ones who have never heard of God, will be given an opportunity. The likes, like the ignorant CHINESE and the INDIANS, etc,. ALL, like the vast ignorant majority of ancient times, they too, along with you and me.

Do you have scripture to back that up? Not the kingdom portion, I understand the implications on the exodus / sermon on the mount. I've also read the book of Hebrews quite in depth.

I personally avoid drinking parties. And having been to some college parties I would say orgy fits. If you are looking for a way to talk to party people see if the college has a designated driver program. Maybe if you are driving them home you can talk to them. I see no reason to put yourself at risk physically or spiritually just to go to parties.

I didn't mean to judge anyone for simply going to parties. I meant to question those that do go and get involved in the sinful aspects of some parties. I know from friends that not all parties are the "stereotypical" drunk, drugged out sexual parties.

I'm just wondering what you all think about Christians participating in them, and also participating in the sinful activities.

I guess it would be ok if a Christian went to a more safer party where they has trustworthy friends that maybe weren't Christian, and that they didn't get involved in the sin.

I used to go to college fraternity parties. I like to dance and I like beer--just a fact, I like the taste of beer, one or two beers is enough for me for an evening. I had some friends in a few fraternities, I would go every now and then and dance and spend a little time with my friends and then go back to my dorm *with my friends*--the friends that were in my dorm, we would look after each other becase no matter who you know there are dangers in being alone or incompetent to make decisions from being drunk in a place where there are a lot of drunk men looking for sex, even if you go in just wanting to dance and have a beer.
