Quote of Jim Elliot...He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.

Matthew 16:24-26 Then said Jesus unto His disciples, If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Luke 15:1-7 Then drew near unto Him all the publicans and sinners for to hear Him. And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. And He spake this parable unto them, saying, What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Philippians 3:7-8 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ... :amen:

Interesting perspective.

I think I understand what the author is explaining, but I personally disagree with this perspective.

Christianity is for everyone. The “losers” need him – they need his strength. The proud need him – they need Him to unscale their eyes and learn to live for Him, not themselves. The rich, the poor, the helpless, the helpful, the winners etc… all need Christ.

For Christians - I find Christianityisforlosers@hotmail.com just plain unedifying. Who reads that and immediately says “ AMEN” (without reading the author’s justification)? He even noted the confusion this caused his family and friends. I don’t think confusion and complication bring edification to the body.

For non-believers – what will their response be to such a statment? - “No kidding”, and then move on. I think it simply provides another avenue to be cynical towards Christians. And could easily lead to thoughts such as, “if Christianity is for losers, count me out. As if I need one more thing to lower my self-esteem”.

Christianity is about living for God. It is the term for those who are saved, who believe in Jesus’ power and are victorious in His redemption. When we are living for Christ (Christianity), we are no longer “losers” but victorious in our God. For our identity is no longer in our meagre selves, but in our Risen and powerful Saviour.

You offended so many people, and you were amused?

I'm sure you meant well, but I'm not sure this is the way to witness...

I have to agree here, particularly the last paragraph. My thoughts are very similar

I think its a bit of a double-edged sword - yes it can stop and make us think, it definately gets attention but I can see how it could be damaging too.

Thank you, none the less, for sharing

Please reread the first sentence...
This is an article I posted a few months ago. It was posted on Relevantmagazine.com. The author Jeremy is a good friend of mine. Enjoy

Secondly, Relevant Magazine is a magazine meant for Christians.... primarily Christians in my generation... therefore the article is not written to those people who are not saved, but to Christians.

Thirdly, some of the replies to this post actually prove another point that I have made on several occassions... Christians tend to be extremely sensative and get offended over the slightest things.

Dear Shannonkish,

Your article is great. And I don't think that this article is only for the christians. It is for those christians who need a Doctor as well as for those usaved people who need a Doctor. Jesus Christ is for both, christians and nonchristians. Learn to give spontanously Jesus Christ and people who need Him will see Him in our lives and words, whatever we do or say.

Hey Shannon,

I am wondering why you would post this about people acting offended on here. I can only find one post where someone was offended (maybe I missed something… it happens;)), and you have already addressed them on the first page.

I am just hoping that you are not assuming that my post is my way of saying I am “offended” just because I don’t agree. Just to set the record straight - I am not offended by the article. I just find the article and what the author did with his email address etc. to make a “point” unedifying to both the church and as a witness. I simply disagree. That is all.

As a christian, reading this on a christian forum, you should have immediately realised what the point of it was. For all of... 3 seconds I thought it was some troll posting stuff to tick us off. Then I realised what she's getting at. It's a clever comment - there's a lot of truth in it.

But you're right about the non-beleivers. They won't see through the comment. The only way they might question is if they personally knew the person who the email belonged to and knew his faith.

That is wonderull and at the same time fearfull, why sould God save a poeple like us? The same reason I still love my husband even after we are broken up, and he strangeled me and threatened to kill me. Because Jesus loves us, our Father loves us. Jesus as He was being crucified prayed to our Father, "Father please forgive them for they know not what they do". What a great love! We are not worthy of the reward we will recieve, without God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. God still loves us even though He was killed by us, how much should we love one another? I love you, and I love the murderer, and I love the rapest, and I love everybody, for how can I know thier hearts? God knows the hearts of men, and He told us thru His word(Jesus Christ) that we should also love one another, even if it seems wrong to us, He knows the outcome. He tells us to do what glorifies His wonderful name! I also Hate evil wich can be manifested by man, but at the same time I love the man, for the sake of God. PRAISE GOD ALMIGHTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But you have to remember, she said this was posted in a magazine for CHRISTIANS, as well this was posted in a section of the forum that is for CHRISTIANS ONLY. I think we have to realize that his targeted audience was for christians, not the unsaved

I can go along with this. I know I'm a looser to the world, but Jesus loves me, and all of us simply because He knows that we are unable to be anything else. What a great thought, we are nothing without Him.
