The difference between Old and New Atheism is night and day.

Hmmm, let's see.

David Hume would have said that he didn't believe in a god.

Sam Harris says he doesn't believe in a god.

All that's required of an atheist is that they don't believe in a god.

Nope, no difference at all...

Furthermore, as I have argued thoroughly in this thread, the atheist who "doesn't believe in God" rests this statement on the "negative" claim, "God is not worthy of belief."
Do you even logic, bro? The question of whether or not one believes the god/s are "not worthy of belief," in no wise has anything to do with the god/s existence. A discussion of the the god/s attributes, were one to exist, is entirely unrelated to evidence for it's existence.

lol right, because there is zero evidence for the "old" god/s, much less the "new" god/s.

Aha! I've realized my mistake. I was confusing you with Freodin, an intelligent atheist. He would never have said things like this:

"Claims which command ubiquitous consent are not disputed claims," is patently false.

...I was really confused as to why someone who I had once known to be quite intelligent would make such irrational statements. But that was my mistake: HitchSlap, not Freodin. I've reaped the rewards of a bad memory!

Let's do a test to see if you believe "(consciously) not believing something" has a burden of proof, or at the very least, a requirement of justification:

Does the statement, "some people don't believe in things" need justification?

This word is the first clue that you think it does need justification.

And voila! The justification for the belief is presented. The person has looked around and has not found any evidence. Therefore they don't believe in the thing. It seems that you agree that it is a belief that requires justification.
Lack of belief, is not believing in something.
