Do you go to a Christian school or a secular one? Why did you choose that? How does it effect your walk with God?

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I go to a Christian university. It's a small private school and I absolutely love it. I chose this school because it was small (about 3000 undergraduate students) and it was Christian. This school has good academics imo and it had what I wanted to major in. I already know that I wouldn't do well in a secular school because I tend to not do well when I'm in very large schools. Most of the classes have 30 or less students per class, which is nice.
I think that going to a Christian school has helped me with my walk with God because we have to do CFE (Christian Faith Exploration) each quarter. There's also a few Bible courses that we have to take that teaches us more about the Christian faith. All in all...going to a private school has been really beneficial to me.

I go to the University of Florida.
Its secular. Its lovely to have campus preachers.
In any case, going to a 34,000 undergraduate secular school has its perks. I don't have anything to compare it with however.
But i'd imagine some of the benefits are exposure. You hear things you do not want to hear. You see things you do not want to see(campus preachers, etc.). You are a minority. This, of course, could be detrimental depending on how you handle it, but its 'interesting'.
Every time this sort of post comes up, someone undoubtedly says that there is not that much of a difference between Christian and secular universities, at least when it comes down to the nitty gritty of student life and social activities.
I am inclinded to agree, but who knows eh?
I applied to 'Christian' colleges, and got accepted into one, however my dad said he didn't want to waste my mind at a small school. Hes UF Alumni and old school Korean mind you
So I didn't have a 'choice', though if I really wanted too I know I could've went.
Who knows how things would have turned out?

I go to the University of Delaware, and it's secular.
Strangely enough, I think it might have helped me get closer to God in some respects.
There's churches well within walking distance to go to, and the fact that there are so many people from so many different backgrounds has taught me a lot about diversity, and a lot about prejudices that I didn't know I had. It also told me a lot about how lucky I am to act how I do because of the bad behavior of other people.

My school is by all means secular. I would have went to a Christian school but none of them had my major. I'm not sure how it has affected my walk(outside of having to see and experience things I never thought I'd ever experience) because with this being the only in-state school with my major I think it was the Good Lords' will that I go here. I'm awaiting whatever He has in store for me ^^

I go to a secular school, which I chose because it offers the degree that I wanted to take. It doesn't really affect my walk with God one way or the other.

I go to a secular college and for personal preference would never go to a Christian college. The field I intend on getting into really doesn't need a background in Christianity and so I would rather just get my school work for my major done, rather than having to take Christian classes.
I also prefer it because of the diversity. I can go to school with a Muslim, Jewish person, Budhist, etc. I can also witness to these people when needed

I attend a Christian college. Liberty University. I don't like everything about it. I was going to transfer out of here to another school but I found out I can't. But I like it do to all the nice people. The modesty. You can't wear inappropriate stuff. I don't mind it!

I go to a secular school solely because I can't afford Christian school (Biola).

It definitely is hard to afford, but I really think it is worth it. God has been working so powerfully in my life since I came here and working miracles and growing me in faith and love.

I go to a secular school. I didn't like the fact that most Christian schools had millions of (what I saw as) "silly" rules. I figure-you're in college, you're old enough to "police" yourself.
I don't like people telling me that I can't pierce my eyebrow or that I can't wear shorts to class or that I can't hang out in my guy friend's dorm rooms.
I realize that this is an issue for ME and that lots of other people don't have problems with this....but I KNEW that it would just end up making me bitter so I decided to just avoid it.
I WOULD like to take some theology classes and maybe some Greek/Hebrew at a Christian school though...but I'll never live at one or attend one fulltime.

I feel much the same way. With a shaved head and rather extensive body piercing, I tend not to fit in with the contemporary christian youth movement, and when you add the fact that I'm quite fond of good beer and have theology that's as about as liberal as it comes it'd be a recipe for disaster.

I am at the University of Calgary for my fifth year in a row.
I chose it because there is no real Christian College in town, that is, no college that offers anything but church degrees and some airy arts degrees (theology, sacred music, general studies, behavioural science, etc). I wanted to do science so I really had no choice but to go with the secular school. I am now done science and finishing sociology at the same school because, again, no Christian schools around offer class that will help me get this degree. Next year I plan on starting an education degree at the same school because no local Christian schools offer that either.
I considered going to a Christian school for my first year, to get some general things and options done, but I was advised against it by a few close friends who had gone through the Christian college. They were tired of the hypocracy and essentially said that going to a university that didn't claim to beleive anything left no possibility of being so disappointed. After getting here I found taht we have a multi-denominational chaplain's center and we do worship weekly and there are more bible studies around than you can shake a stick at.
While not attending a Christian school might put less of an emphasis on spirituality in general I think place has far less to do with spiritual growth than personal effort/attitude do. Kids from bible school know their bibles and doctrine a pant load better than I do, but that doesn't equate to closeness with God. I might be closer with God if I went to Christian school, but I might not. As it is I am more than plewased with my university experience.
