Just wondering if anyone likes Christian speed/thrash metal? Bands like Deliverance, Saint, Eternal Decision, etc? Those are the only bands in the genre I have. Any one know any other bands like them? Old school, late 80s/early 90s is my favorite. I'm not into death/black metal at all. The music is fine, but I hate the vocals. I like every other style of rock and metal though.

I don't know exactly what 'thrash/speed metal' is

Thrash: fast, power-chord laden riffing with heavy use of palm muting and downstrokes. Usually relies heavily on 4/4 time signatures and 1-2 beats. Vocals are either clean singing or gruff shouting, occasionally screamed or growled as well though this is much less common. Lyrics are often political in nature, and are almost never optomistic.

Speed metal: Like thrash but more melodic, and frequently has more of an "upbeat" sound rather then a dark one. Sometimes gets confused with power metal.

Yeah. But I typically like rock/metal with CLEAN vocals. That's what makes it more melodic/more worthy of the term "musical" to me.

Hrm. You might want to check out Blind Guardian's earlier albums. Not a Christian band per se but at least a few of the members are Christian.. and Hansi owns.

Both are metalcore. Not metal.

Living Sacrifice were metal at one point, though, yes..

Thats where all this sub genre stuff really loses me. I remember in the '80s when there was pretty much only a few metal categories. Even with the progressing change in the genre, it would be easier for me if these kids would stop playing the name game to try and make their bands sound unique by adding "Prog/Alt/Punk/Funk-Metal to the genre.

Hey StandForTruth, if you have the will and patience. Maybe one of these days you would be able to tell me what some of the bands in my collection fall under. You seem to have the knowledge in this area that I lack.

Peace in Christ

Saint were'nt particularly thrashy, and most of the bands in the OP were 80's stuff, but all good for the mind.

I think the whole Christian extreme metal etc genre should take a bow and give gratitude to Mortification and the spinoffs like Horde for helping break the ground for that genre to gain acceptance. Let's not forget Vengence Rising either (though in some ways we should!)

Thinman- don't worry about the whole subgenre thing- it's just a way to pigeonhole stuff, and it's very subjective. Just enjoy your own music and let the generic definitions make sense to YOU.

With the exception of prog (which is basically generic heavy metal but more technical) those are oxymorons. So don't worry about it, heh.

If you like. I really listen to very little non-secular music, though, so odds are I would not recognize alot of what you might mentioned..

A way to classify stuff. A subgenre for every occasion, and then some..

Prog/alt/punk/funk-metal was a joke. I at least know enough to know that. I never use to care about the genre classification thing. But being on another forum where everyone is much younger than I am, they use it alot, and I just figured it would help to know in certain situations what they were talking about. Personally, I dont think i have the energy to even learn it for such a trivial reason.
