In another thread I was stunned to see so many posts saying polygamy was biblical. I decided to bring it here to see what the couples think. I thought Jesus changed these laws for a reason? Although it appears polygamy is accepted by many Christians

He arose from there and came into the borders of Judea and beyond the Jordan. Multitudes came together to him again. As he usually did, he was again teaching them. Pharisees came to him testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"
He answered, "What did Moses command you?"
They said, "Moses allowed a certificate of divorce to be written, and to divorce her."
But Jesus said to them, "For your hardness of heart, he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will join to his wife, and the two will become one flesh, so that they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate."
In the house, his disciples asked him again about the same matter. He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her. If a woman herself divorces her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery."

what was their definiton of polygamy? was it really having multiple wives within a single marriage...er whatever those people do? and that really doesn't make sense that they say it's 'biblical'. hmmm...who are these 'christians?'

it is certainly shocking to me to hear from you that many people think its okay. i'm right there with ya

i don't think that confining a husband and or wife to only one in your life is very right. what if a spouse dies? its not up to us to say, "no, never again. you had your one time" i believe that God can work through anything, whether it be a second marriage or anything else. I'm sure you can have an extremely God pleasing marriage, if your spouse died or something like that.

even if there was a divorce or something, we shouldn't be the ones who say, "no, what you have done is wrong. never again can you have a Godly relationship" God forgives endlessly, and so should we. we aren't anyone to judge a heart

In some religions, they use the Bible to justify their desire to have many wives. However, the Bible clearly does not support it. (And, I wonder, why is it that polygamy means having many wives but not one woman having many husbands???)

It is also against the law. And God commands us to follow the leaders and the law He has put over us.

I think one husband is enough. And I'll admit there are times when I wish there was some other wife to do the dishes, I know I am enough wife for my marriage too. :)

polygamy means many wives.
polyandry means many husbands.
just for clarification.

and yes, polygamy is in the Bible... but ever notice what happens because of it????????

I mean, look at Rachel and Leah and the strife that it caused. Look at David. Look at Solomon.
Sometimes a couple examples are all we need to know that it's just not good for us.

and yah, against the US law is enough for me.

There were reasons for multiple wives on teh OT. A main one was the need to produce a male heir if the wife was barren (Sarah and Hannah).
Even then you can see that the situation was not healthy. The women were adversaries.
I think if someone is all about having lots of wives, they're not grown up enough to get married.
