To protect them from the harsh and dangerous conditions outside of Eden, where they were going to live due to their sin of disobedience. They tried to hide from God with their fig-leaf clothes, but those were inadequate in many ways.

And, for the record, all I'm wearing today is shoes and socks (for foot protection).

Actually, it's not a good idea to disobey God, especially when He explicitly said:

"DON'T EAT THAT FRUIT!"

Being naked wasn't wrong; He made His people that way, and declared it "very good".

Freedom from clothes when it is warm.
For those that have not tried it take a shower dry off and let the air reach every inch of your body give your body a refreshing dose of air.Don't be in a rush to cover up.
Sleep naked,have your morning coffee naked.It would be a start.

Much of the "nudism" on the internet is just pornography.

Real nudism is the opposite of pornography, because the nudist's hearts really are in the right place. Otherwise, I would not have taken my kids to nudist locations all their lives.

yes, they did .... and God didn't find those coverings good enough, so God killed animals and made clothes for them.
Adam and Eve were hiding their guilt of disobeying. God was probably saying their efforts weren't good enough.

Yet Genesis never gives God giving a command that we shouldn't be naked.

I am just giving this discussion a different viewpoint perhaps.When my child broke something he did his best to hide the broken object and came up with all different excuses.In his mind he thought by hiding the incident and having all these excuses that I would forget the broken object.He made a personal judgement call.In our situation it would have been much simpler if the truth was told.
Adam and Eve made a judgement call themselves they hid their wrongdoing behind leaves.
Yes GOD gave them clothes to have because they had no use for them before they had ideal environment no thorns no cold nights no winter.GOD knew that how would man know how to make clothes for themselves if they did not have a sample.
The main point most people are missing is that GOD created n u d i t y it was HIS creation and it was good.Man has always come up with excuses to cover themselves and hide.
Jesus died on the cross and took our sins and shame away.Man still thinks there is a catch to this and covers himself and hides.

Of course cultural taboos do change over time, same-sex marriage being a good example. It has been legal for women to go topless in New York state since the early 90s but few have. However on a trip to NYC a couple weeks ago I saw two young ladies sunbathing topless in Central Park. Perhaps it is starting to catch on and will become the norm nationwide.

Yes it is largely cultural, and as for New York I knew that and I think there is a movement to make it more known.

Organizations like Free The Nipple and Go Topless (and others) lobby for acceptance of female toplessness, especially since male toplessness is acceptable.

Very true. Among those who have been going topless in public in NYC are the Outdoor Co-ed Topless Pulp Fiction Appreciation Society. They gather in NYC parks to sunbath topless and enjoy good books. Why wouldn't they be? And why does that bother you? Nudity isn't dangerous to children.

My father used to walk around nude in my home when I was a child. There was nothing sexual about it, and I was not harmed in the slightest. If anything, I might have gained better body acceptance.

Actually he was not naked. Clothing in that day consisted of rectangular sheets wrapped around the body. (think of a sari) His dancing and jumping was high enough to allow the young ladies to have (what we would call in current usage) an up-skirt view of his male parts. (no undies back then either)
