Christian music that doesn't necessarily sound Christian?

Now this is an odd question, but in the past I've found artists who make Christian songs, but many people didn't realise the meaning of the lyrics until they were told that the artist was christian. Me and others in my class often play music out loud and I wanted some artists like these ones so I can still play Christian music, but without seeming too preachy and obnoxious. Any suggestions?

Realize that A LOT of so-called "Christian" songs/ music/ (even 'worship' songs lyrics and the music both) is definitely NOT Christian.
Entertainment (seems to) hold a lot more influence over people than truth and righteousness.

Emotionalism?
The necessity of having an "emotional response" during worship in order to feel close to God. It's all about feelings for many churches these days, nothing about doctrine and theology, or scripture.

To have praise music and worship to get a spiritual high or to feel good/comfortable. Rock concerts do not belong in churches in my opinion, because as soon as the church invites any part of the world into it, corruption tends to run rampant.

I'm not sure I really agree with that, if you pray and feel nothing are you really praying? Are you really thankful or repentful for anything? Or are you just quoting words you have memorised.

If you're doing it just to feel good, are you really worshipping God, or yourself?

Feelings and emotions aren't bad, God gave them to us for a reason. But seeking an emotional response as a necessity for feeling close to God can cause deception, and blind a person to what's really important in the Christian walk. I've witnessed this myself many, many, maaaannnny times.

Yes! The group called "ApologetiX" has over 600 Christian song paradies of many of the songs we of all ages grew up with.

Epitaph Records used to be a source for a lot of this type of music. Not sure if it is anymore. Something to check into.

epitaph.com

I have some music up on SoundCloud.com (motorist sketchbook)
It's all original songwriting and recorded demos by me.
I would describe it as secular music with a Christian worldview.

Since Christian music is i.e. singing God's praise Ephesians 5:19 declaring His name to our brothers and sisters Hebrews 2:12 shouting for joy in His praise Psalms 71:23 Telling of His wonderful acts Psalms 105:2

Then I'm unsure how it can be "not too preachy" or in other words not Christian.

Why don't you just find some instrumentals that you enjoy since your wanting something different?

Try out U2's album Joshua Tree, or perhaps a greatest hits. In fact all their albums really. (Bono and 3 of the 4 members are Christians).

A few fun favorites of mine that sound good in the music way, good rhythms and such, equal to good popular songs that way, but are Christian. (Try 15 seconds, and if you don't like pause and try the next :)

ah, then you should respect (perhaps even like) the Lauren Daigle song out lately, the 2nd one in post #17.

You address a real problem, and perhaps you'll see how the Daigle song is about the solution.

But...there is more to think on here.

The other side of the coin is that He can rescue those in the depths of despair. I know this personally.

Not trying to get some emotion, just some feel-good...but crying out to God from the ultimate depths of despair, when all one's world seems to be hopeless.

And being rescued by Him, even at the last minute...

Be always aware of John 7:24 -- we are never to judge on appearances (because we are not perfect and omniscient enough to do so).

Joy is a valid Christian emotion though (as is love!), don't you know? Look it up or ask if you need, but perhaps you already know this.

Emotionalism?

Don't worry, both Joy and Love are valid Christian emotions (all emotions are valid in themselves, but I mean these 2 are very much part of Christian life) -- and love is required of us, though it takes many forms, emotion only one form, but a valid form also!
