I watched a short article from Bible Expidition on the possible plaace where Christ was taken into Pontius Pilot during His trial. Traditional history and most tourists claim Christ was taken through the Eastern gate into Herods Palace which was then Pontius Pilots palace. But evidence suggests that it was the western gate.
It is this gate which ,makes sense because the bible says Simon of Cyrene come in from the country through the gate into the Palace. Whereas the eastern gate goes into the Old city and not the country.
It also makes sense because Pilot was going in and out to a crowd of people standing outside the gate which could only happen outside the confined city streets around the eastern gate.
A court yard is describe within the eastern gate with steps up to a Judgement seat or Bema seat that Herod had built. It was this seat that Pilot sat to give his final judgement of Jesus to be crucified at the crowds request.
The eastern gate was dicovered in the 70s I think and it had rumble and dirt covering the ground up as high as 3/4 of the western wall. Once all the dirt was removed they found the remains of the side walls and steps with bits of cobbled pavement. What is sad is that the Bema seat, the place of Christs judgement and crucifixtion was broken off and laid down on the ground broken like it was rubbish.
Within the Palace complex was Herods palace and the Roman guards quarters at the opposite end. So we can trace the possible route and place Jesus was taken to be whipped, crowned with thorns and the purple robe placed on Him. It was quite possible within the soldiers quarters where such punishment was done.
On the site where the soldiers quarters one stood was a great mound of dirt that was only recently made part carpark. A small patch of the foundations and flooring is exposed. Not as a tourist attraction but for further investigation. But that has not happened and it has been left standing there for years.
As the video commentator Joel who runs Expidition Bible said that the exposed Roman era tiled floor could literally be the place where Christ was whipped before being brough back out to the crowd. This is now just a carpark and no one seems to care about the historical significance of this. With further exploration we could be finding more evdience of what it was like for Christ in His last days. Probably one of the most important locations in history just treated like rubbish.
I have also seen several sites around the Palace and Temple Walls. Jewish symbols calved into stones used in the wall and bits of ornaments and other relics lying in rubble at the bottom like its rubbish. It seems the Muslims don't respect history and disallow anyone saving these treasures or doing any exploration. Its sad.
