its like christian porn, or a catholic abortion clinic, or an agoraphobia travel club, or a claustrophobia splelunking club. christian goth? Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14
now I remember why I don't come on here.
way to show God's love to someone you think isn't on the right path. cuz if I wasn't already a christian & met you I wouldn't want to be one.
please think before you speak, you might be turning off peole to our faith, therefore condeming people to hell & failing God. you are accountable for every action.
I'm not really goth anymore, but it's nice to see how people treat others they don't understand.
if I was looking for yuppy preps you probably wouldn't have an issue, even though christian goths show more of christ's love than normal preppy christians.
maybe it's cuz we understand what it is like to be hated by people who only look at the surface.
PaxThroughX said:ok... have you actually talked to a goth? Are you friends with any? Not all as you described, are like that. WHat you mentioned is secular, not christian.
So how are we to reach the lost? Music brings people tgether of many races etc. That means, the christian music out today is sinful, right?
Ezekiel 34:4- "You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound up the injured. You have not brought back the strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and brutally."
Matthew 19:13-14:
"Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them.
Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.
We cant just reject someone because there not how we think they should look like. Jesus let the children come to him. We should do the same for goths, punks, emos, metalheads, "whatever people sterotype." Again music brings people together, how better would it be for different christian genres to do the same. Trust me, its no phony buiness type deal, it really has reached the lost, or helped in the matter.
another verse to think about: Galations 3:28- "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Anyone can enter God's kingdom (as long as they are in Christ Jesus) SO what matters more, reaching the lost, and making people act like man think they should?
My brother once used these same arguments. He has a lot of problems in life and no longer believes in God. There are some things that have no place in the christian way of life. Musical genres that generally promote dark, hedonistic ways of life being used for Christ. What drives many possible converts away from the church is the fact that many people who proclaim to be belivers live a life that is inconsitant with what is laid out in Gods word.
That being said I would welcome you as a friend and discuss the scriptures all day with you. I once wanted to serve God and mammon as well it let to a big mess but taught me a lot. I love all brothers and sisters no matter their view but I wont not speak if I see somthing wrong not because it offends me but because it is contrary to truth.
I will pray for you. If it is being use for Christ, than it doesnt promote darkness. If you want to know what promotes darkness i can simply clairfy your misconceptions. There are some things that have no place in the christian way of life. Musical genres that generally promote dark, hedonistic ways of life being used for Christ
lets do it say on my profile instead of hear, you say musical genres promoting genres drive people away, however as goth4God said: she doesnt come on here because of the people. Come on, we should all be here for God or to even further grow in our walks, not pick at every little thing. That being said I would welcome you as a friend and discuss the scriptures all day with you.
don't GUESS!
Goth's whole idealogy is surrounded in darkness, its whole attitude is darkness, get some spiritual discernment, or you really are going to be a blind guide, unable to tell right from wrong, good from evil
I am merely making an educated guess on what every "goth" holds(regardless of religious affiliation).
Perhaps they(Christians with a gothic lifestyle) want to outwardly express the darkness of their past fallen nature so as to appreciate the light given to them.
Maybe what we perceive as "darkness" is "light' to them, and they are expressing that light.
Christianity is not a "cookie-cutter" religion. It is a melting pot of ideas and lifestyles absorbed around one common interest: the pursuit of Christ and the advancement of His Kingdom. While each path is different(to a degree), they all end up in Christ.
don't GUESS!
Goth's whole idealogy is surrounded in darkness, its whole attitude is darkness, get some spiritual discernment, or you really are going to be a blind guide, unable to tell right from wrong, good from evil
When did guessing not become synonymous with speaking personal opinion, both on the same matter?
Darkness, dispair, strife, angst and disdain do not go hand in hand with considering oneself "Goth". Could someone not also be those things and attend mass daily or enjoy classical music and hot air balloon rides? Yes. To be a Goth is to accept the differences you have with the normalcy of society in which you live. It is a way to distinguish yourself on a physical, emotional and social level. Dark clothes is part of it. So is hair dye, jewelry and beautiful poetry. If a Goth goes to church, do they wear boots and a button shirt? Sure. If a cowboy goes to church, do they wear boots and a button shirt? Yep.
Is your viewpoint personal as in your own beliefs and you are using scripture here to get your own point across?
What about bands who have had commercial success that were formed and are guided under their faith in God? Bands like Fireflight, Flyleaf, Red and Icon For Hire. They could be considered Goth if heard and viewed by the right (or wrong) person.
Plain and simple. Goth is about embracing the differences you have with others and about establishing the community with like-minded beliefs in yourself and others. Sure, there are some that delve in darkness, just like there are some Pastors who embezzle money from their congregation and just like some politicians who get elected to change Washington and then vote "no" on every bill sponsored by the other party. Things happen but you cannot lump something together when it does not flow with 100% of what is involved. Water vaporizes. 100% Sun rises and sets. 1000% A 14 year old Goth kid practices Wicca. Not all Goths are Wiccan.
I am sorry for the tone of this but I grew up Goth and I am in my 35th year now and it is still with me, even though I do not shroud myself in constant black. God does not dictate personality, only character. Goth is part of ones personality.
To back2thebible,
Each verse you quote, you have taken terribly out of context. What does it mean to be "of the world"? Does it mean we cannot do anything like the world? If so, all clothing is out, medicine is out, education is out, language is out, reading is out, in fact, living is out. If you live, you are just like all the other vile sinners out in the world. Your very existence trumps your own argument.
Beyond that, I have come to the realization that it is not the actions we do(to a degree) that make something a sin, but it is the intention that makes it a sin. We use the terms "good" and "bad" far too often. Those are relative terms! Something can be good in one case, but bad in another. I prefer to use "righteous" and "unrighteous", as those are absolute. These terms deal with intention, not action. One can do a good work(such as feeding the homeless) and it still be unrighteous by not giving the glory to God. So for someone to dress a certain way can be righteous if the person gives glory to God through it. While it may be a "bad" decision relative to you, to someone in that lifestyle(or any other lifestyle such as "prep", "jock", "punk", "hipster", "urban", et cetera) it is something "good". But it is up to the intention in their hearts as to whether it is going to be a righteous action, and that is all that matters.
Now, specific sins are out of the question, and that is why I said intentions are all that matter to a degree. So don't try to put words in my mouth or take this out of context.
