CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I always check the charity's financials and read about what they do before I donate.

I firmly do.
We can trust an organization and assume they are ethical, but how they spend their money also speaks for the way they will make decisions in other areas. If they put themselves above the law in finances, they may do the same with their members, or promote an imbalanced doctrine.
Look also at where the mindset of "the money is God's" came from. I learned it from my pastors. Scripturally, we are to give to the fund that supports the temple, the priests and the needy. But God never supported corruption within the temple leadership.
Ezekiel is full of revelation from God about corruption within the system.
16:2 "Son of man, make [SIZE=-1][/SIZE]known to Jerusalem her abominations"
Compare this corruption within the system to idol worship. The difference in giving to support each is only in the destination's name -- a wolf who misleads the sheep is no better than one who misleads to another religion.
We need to release our offering from being our personal money in order to keep up the discipline of giving. But being a wise steward can involve researching who we give to.
I have made mistakes, and I have given to sources that proved to be more corrupt than I expected... and I know that at the time it was fine with God, and He is able to repair whatever we do in good intent. But I have also had years of ignoring research on where I gave God's money, and regret my laxness. I contributed to the growth of things that harmed individuals.

I am sorry to hear this, and I find it thought-provoking - maybe I should be taking a closer look at my charitable giving! What sorts of things that harmed individuals did you discover? I can't really imagine what that would be, probably due to naivete.

Lol, I have had some odd experiences. I was not trying to steer people away from giving, but as I read my post away it probably had that effect.
I do believe in giving, no question. It wouldn't be helpful for me to broadcast evils and errors just to make my point. But since giving is tied in with honoring God, an act of worship, I want to make sure the recipient is doing God-honoring work, and using funds responsibly.
Most denominational churches have very organized budgets, open books, and accountability instruments in place.

It's Better To Give...
Certainly you should be a wise steward with your money and not give it to someone or an organization that doesn't seem legitimate. Don't be afraid to ask where your money is going. With that said, the other part of it is, ultimately, if you are led to give, then give. They will have to stand before God for how they used the resources given to them, and you will stand before God for your faithfulness. So, be a giver, but never be afraid to ask questions if necessary.
