I am deeply interested and motivated in the idea of living with fellow Christians in a commune preferably off-grid, living in a town with only a handful of Christians it's hard to really show your faith and love for Jesus, there isn't too much I can find online so I thought I'd post here, so if you know of such a place then please comment.

I recall seeing an environment like in the "community work" field.

I visited one in Chicago, Jesus People USA. I wasn't impressed. They didn't seem any closer to God than the people at my normal church and fellowship, and they were noticeably less joyful - when discontented people gather in one place, you get a pool of discontent, so it makes sense. The way they distributed resources also seemed to make the work they did in the community inefficient.

They're also very urban, so if you want a countryside environment, they're not the place for you.

Catholic monasteries are functional communes. You can often visit them at certain times and days set by the communities. Sometimes you can stay with them for a few days. And if you really like the environment, you can join them after a few years of being a novice. There are communities of men and communities of women.

There is also a 'third order' thing I know little about. The Carmelites do that, and maybe the Benedictines and others.
