  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi

Seeing that all celebrities are worshiped, and most live a lavish lifestyle, there are some who have a good moral such as Bono, and try to cancel third world debt. However he gets criticism from the church for being a secular rock star, although he is a believer.

I'm sure there are more Christian celebreties out there. But my question is, Do you think it's right to a Christian and be famous at the same time? If not why?

I say Yes, but only if you are doing it "right"

By that, I mean, you aren't just speaking words! Use your spotlight to inspire others to do good! Lead by example!

Unfortunately with so many "celebs" outlashing in so many bizarre and unhealthy ways, it's hard to imagine...

A believer in what, exactly?

I mean, don't get me wrong, I love U2's music and I appreciate that a lot of their lyrics express Christian themes, but simply writing a song about God doesn't make one a Christian.

I'm sure there are more Christian celebreties out there. But my question is, Do you think it's right to a Christian and be famous at the same time? If not why?

Why wouldn't it be? As long as your fame doesn't become an idol or cause others to stumble, what's the problem?

I've heard a few arguments that alot of Christians think it's wrong to be famous in the secular world because of the temptations and all....And therefore should only stay in the Christian circle. The lead singer of Jars of clay was saying something about it a couple of years back.

I hope I have cleared it up a bit ^_^

I think Bonos has lead his whole life as a musician , if he is passionate about his music and cares enough about the world by showing his goodwill then he deserves no irrational criticism , just because in the eyes of the church see people admire him it doesn't make him personally more or less better person , the church will use any myth to scare people away from things they don't like , there simply all crooks by filling up childrens/adults minds with rubbish.

They tried to discourages people from believing evolutionism, the means to our origins ,this is because the idea of evolution crossed paths with the bible in which they called creationism, the idea where God put humans on Earth as we are now ( we were never monkeys ).

Dogma drives people away from the truth into believing that something is not alright if not mentioned in ancient scripts , if people think Bono is not alright then what are they trying to do ,discouraging anyone who has thoughts of becoming famous or musicians.

What he said was "'I'm a believer and I have faith in Christ". That's pretty much it.

Now, I don't know him personally, so I won't judge him but is his life indicative of someone who has been regeneragted by the Holy Spirit?

I have to be honest, I've seen him do things publicly that I can't reconcile with the way the Bible tells us a believer is supposed to behave.

If he is a Christian (and I will take his word for it), it doesn't look like he was discipled very well.

I don't condone everything he does, He himself has said he isn't the best Christian in the world. Everything he does is out in the open, God is the one who will judge him not me. But he is sincere when he talks about his faith in interviews.

How can you criticise his (Bono) actions and say he doesnt appear Christians. If the actions of everyone were publicised and in the open none of us ould appear to be Christians. Thats why we ARE Christians, because we are inadequate and need Christ.

Exactly! It's a pity others don't understand that...

But nearly all high profile Christian artists get judged by the church, just take a look at this site  http://www.corruptchristianity.com/home/
