You can't always go off your feelings. Remember " The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9) " So you cannot follow your feelings/thoughts/heart.... If you are unsure of something refer back to the bible. I believe that it is okay to listen to some secular music IF it still lines up with the bible as in it is not violent, sexual, etc. and has a positive message.

I don't really have any boundaries. If a boundary were say, "I can't see the male genitalia!" Porn would obviously be out, but many documentaries would also be out.

There's only been two films I've seen that have really bugged me to the point I've decided to stay away from similar films - Irreversible & Audition. Now, I know not to watch something like Caligula.

I don't really have boundaries that are set out - one film can have a graphic sex scene and I won't be all that fazed, whereas other films just shake me to the core. The MPAA ratings are so screwed up, it would be silly of me to rely on those to make a decision. Providing it's not pornography of any sort, I'll watch. I may regret it afterwards, but not enough to write out a list of boundaries, like if it has X amount of swear words I won't listen or watch.

Books... no boundaries. Music... providing it's not Neo-Nazi music, I'll probably give it a listen.

The best way I've ever taught on how to decide if a certain type of entertainment is appropriate is this: If it's a sin in real life, it's a sin to watch/listen/play. I teach this to young people. The Bible says adultery and fornication are wrong, so it's really not appropriate to watch a movie where people are doing such, or listening to music promoting that. It's a sin to rob people and kill them, so it's a likely chance that a video game that has you doing that is something God probably wouldn't play.

As far as the moods it creates... if a type of music depresses you, it is of utmost importance to get rid of it, esp if there is an emotional disorder involved. Why would someone want to listen to a depressing song anyways? I've never gone wrong throwing on some Hillsong or Michael W. Smith and started praising God.

The fact that one would question what they are entertaining themselves with is probably a good indication that it's not edifying. I was always taught, "When in doubt, do without."
