WHY is it that christian bookstores what your firstborn to buy a CD? Do you not think it's kind of outrageous? I'm kind of torn about it. I feel, as a Christian, that I should support these stores as they are a tool in Ministry, however, I work two jobs to support my family and I am NOT going to pay 17.98 for a cd that I can purchase at wal-mart for 13.88. Ummmm...what's wrong with this picture?

Am I the only one that feels this way?

They price them so high it's silly(though Family Christian has good pre-buy deals). They make at least a 60% profit off each CD, if not more.

I can't stomach that, so more often than not, I'll buy my CDs at WalMart or someplace else. I don't believe there is anything wrong with supporting a "secular" store over a "Christian" store by choosing where you buy things. Ultimately, the money all goes back to God(Ecclesiastes 2:26).

its basic business
walmart is the biggest industry in the world, it makes a buttload of money a year, probably more than a 100 times what your christian bookstore makes in a year. they price the cds at 17-18 dollars because they need to to make a profit and stay in business so that they can continue to sell what they sell. Walmart can price their cds so low because they have sold so many and they sell so much other stuff that make profit that they don't need to price their cds as much.

I get my cds at places that will have them for me and have nice ppl there. I fig there's always sales or some kind of specail coupon or deal. Truth would be getting em online can be really really cheap, but like having the chance to ask for a certain cd/band and just see what kind of reaction I get from the music ppl in that store.

Your obligation of where your money goes isn't about the store you buy it from, it's about the band/record company you buy it from. That's my theory on it all anyways.

CD's cost so much nowadays because of piracy. With CD burners all we have to do is borrow a friend's CD, copy and burn, and its that easy, you've got your own copy of the CD....and you've just committed CD piracy, making a copy for yourself is fine, but giving to a friend is piracy, and selling it is just plain illegal. Everyone has to make a profit, the band, their record company, and all the way down to your store. The only way to make money is to up the price to balance all the money lost from piracy. I have heard that if piracy continues growing at the rate it has recently the music industry will be devastated in less than 4 years.

Food For Thought.

I shop at christian bookstores all of the time, I don't care how much they cost, it makes me feel good knowing that the money I am giving is going to a good company with good people. Much like swingnscream, I like to talk to the people at the stores about what they enjoy and what's coming out soon, it makes the trip worth it to be able to talk to someone who is just as into music as I am. Christian Bookstores ROCK!

Don't know about you, but my first born cost $12,000 and my second born was $12,800. Thats a far cry from $20.

Just kidding. I get your point, but then again, Christian bookstores don't buy in bulk like Wal-Mart does, allowing them to purchase them for cheaper, which in turn means savings for the consumer.

Last time I checked, no Christian Bookstore, not even the big chains compare to the buying power of national chains like Wal-Mart.

like someone said.. its a business.. unfortuantly there is no difference to business and christian business.. everything still costs the same. If you want to support the store, than do so, by paying a few extra dollars a cd, if u dont want to do that, then support a corporate giant like wallmart (so they can become bigger and stronger and buy out more smaller companies).. and become a corporate slave like everyone else. I can understand u are supporting a family but i doubt 3dollars difference is going to leave ur family unfed for the week. If it does make a difference than u need to find whats important to you..; a> supporting a christian bookstore or b> saving a few dollars to support money/power hungry giants only interested in tearing down ur family by ultimately owning EVERYTHING and makeing you pay more for it...

rant over..

i say, go to both. if you can't find the band your hunting for find it at another store. they are just stores that supply with a certain deman for whatever area of life they are aiming to sell too. i have noticed that Christian bookstores are really high in their prices for cd's, but if you really like a band, then i'm sure a few bucks won't be that bad to put in for the cd. but buisness is buisness, and it's a fact of life. and that's why i like going to all kinds of stores. the tiny, mom and pap record shops, the big coroporations, Christian bookstores. the blessings of capitalism eh? lol.
