If we bashed Tom Cruise for his wacko ideas we would be considered "intolerant"
people are always bashing Tom Cruise for his beliefs. every late night talk show makes a complete mockery of the guy because of this beliefs, everyone thinks he's insane.....so i really don't know what you're talking about there:scratch:

sure, there is a bit of "Christian bashing" going on in the media i suppose but that's mostly because of the image alot of Christians have given themselves

Can you share some examples of Christians and/or their beliefs being bashed on television?
The most blatant I have seen have been on new programs. They always seem to pick some wild eyed fringe case to interview when a news story is focused on us. They will also concentrate on stories like the "haunted house" some church in (I believe) in The South had on Halloween while ignoring ministries in foreigh countries, outreach programs in local areas and the like.

I can't talk for the entertainment shows on network tv since I don't watch them. Maybe somebody can give us some info in that area.

The original idea of this thread was about the bashing on the horizon with elections coming up.

In regards to the entertainment world, NBC has been in the dog house lately with the AFA (American Family Association) because of their blasphemy against Christianity and the mockery that they tried to make of it. "The Book of Daniel" was a good example where Jesus was presented as hippy like, and visited this man (Daniel, a priest) in his home, car, etc. He would cheer on things that the Bible certainly would not. That show was cancelled after a few episodes because the outpouring of Christian e-mails to NBC and the sponsors for this show. Also an episode of Will & Grace had to be cancelled from airing because it was also a mockery to Christianity.

It is truly getting out of control. Many stations are trying to push the envelope with us to see how far they can go. That's what bothers me.

Well then the only thing for us to do is to make ourselves heard. Let the networks know that we won't watch shows like that and let the advertizers know we won't buy their products. Money is their bottom line, so if they think they are loosing money they might clean up their act.

If The Davinci Code does well at the box office we can expect more garbage like it on the small screen. Remember that mess they did last year based on Revelations...

Yes, exactly  I think that's what AFA is trying to do most of the time. While at times I think they go a bit overboard, I did agree with those 2 things I mentioned above in my last post. Like you mentioned, money is the bottom line for them. What they can't make a profit from or get us consumers hooked on, they won't produce. When it comes to simply offensive material mocking my Lord and Savior, I have a problem and I will speak up.

I agree with you about The Davinci Code. I can only hope that it does indeed flop. I really enjoy Tom Hanks too as an actor, so I was disappointed that he would even be affiliated with such a thing. :sigh:

Prayer is ALWAYS a good answer. But we also have to be pro-active. Folks can always pass around a petition at their church stating folks intention NOT to watch shows with anti-Christian content and NOT to buy products touted on those programs. If you spot something blatant write down the show, episode name, channel and time slot and who the sponsors of the show are. Then just make up a letter with that information and WHY what has been shown is offencive. Put a couple of rules sheets with it and get all the signatures that you can on them and send it to the network. If one in ten Christians did this the networks would come around REAL quick!

I agree :) You could do that, or I think there's a place on the American Family Association's web site perhaps where you could contact them and submit an offense. I'm not completly sure about that, but it's worth a shot. I'd just Google AFA and see what comes up. I know they're always sending out e-mails for their members to sign petitions to stop a certain event or show from happening, so perhaps they'd like even more information. Just thought I'd add that. God bless!

Oh never mind I thought people had some examples of tv literally making some kind of attack on Christianity, bad quality tv is not an example of Christian bashing.

I'd never use AFA as a meter for what is actually mocking Christianity.

Don't forget The Simpsons, although that was a cartoon show, it did put Christians in a bad light with Homer's neighbor, Ned Flanders. While some of it was funny, there were episodes that it was absolutely tasteless. Then, what else can we expect from a cartoon such as that?
