Christian Artists that need to call it a day.

i agree, yes, they play arenas...and no, they may not play bars or clubs. BUT...they are FAR from self serving. I take GREAT offense at that, a lot of these people you speak of are friends, and to say something like that is completely unfair without knowing their heart. AND...there are PLENTY of "church" kids that go to these concerts with their youth groups that are in limbo as far as making a decision for Christ. also, is there anything wrong with these ministries simply being an encouragement or even challenging those of us that are Christians?

as far as the other responses to my original post, i agree, there is nothing wrong with simply naming the artists that you don't care for, and giving opinion. it would be a boring place if we all had the same tastes. but some of the posts that i have read in response to the topic were not so much just saying "I don't care for whoever", but seemed to me (as i said, my opinion) questioning the original validity of the ministries involved. THAT is all i was trying to say.

people. I am old, and I've seen a lot of Music in my day. I've notice a trend. Now this trend doesn't apply to any Christians on this forum. Christians would never allow their walk to be despoiled by an unloving attitude, and this is definitely a trend that is "unloving."

I notice that some people are music snobs. Yes, snobs. These are the "serious" rock and roll types. They are usually metal people. These people also usually do the long hair thing and look down on the "clueless." Well, first, the long hair thing is no longer a "rebellion" thing. You can wear your hair long in Donald Trump's board room, so that ain't happening.

Did you ever notice that none of the other "music" fans look down their nose and persecute other genres? Oddly, these "types" are also advocates of the "freedom" of musical expression line of blather. They want all men to be free to "express" themselves in music, but only if it is "their" kind of "music."

Second, bashing another style of music is rude. Rudeness is a sign of stupidity, nastiness, and a sure sign that someone has little if any class. It is usually the pathetic effort of someone that has poor self image. He attacks others to make himself feel "superior." Get a bunch of people that agree with you and you have a flock of bullies. Get a bully and a bunch of people that are not as verbally adept, and you have a bully that has a flock of toadies in tow. You will remember this clique from grade school and secondary school.

For instance, if I like Italian, then I shouldn't bash those that don't. Incidentally, I believe Italian should be banned. The only thing Italian does is make large pot bellies on thin people. Yes, I am a food snob. I believe that anyone that doesn't eat meat eight times a day isn't doing his best to make his body buff. Yes, I would like to improve my physique too. Anyway, If that bothers you, then consider the fact that you do exactly the same thing to others when you 'music bash."

Yes, as for me, I am righteously looking down my nose at the scum of the dietary world. I am right, and you crisco eating undermenschen should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Do you get my point, or do you think that I am attacking you? To quote Carly Simon, "I'll bet you think this song is about you!" If you think I am attacking you, then you may have something to worry about. Perhaps if you went to a psychologist, you would find that suffer from an inferiority complex. That is bad because if you don't respect yourself, then who will?

Then perhaps I should rephrase. I don't think the people are self-serving. I do not know (some) of them personally to make that determination. But what they DO is self-serving, in that they are making NO attempt to reach a lost and dying world. Go to a popular CCM concert, what will you see? Church kids. I've contended for a long time, and will continue to do so, that popular CCM music is not there to reach the lost, but rather to give the church kids an alternative to the 'secular' music out there. Is that a bad thing? No. But don't sit there and tell me that Audio Adrenaline's (as an example) motive is to reach the lost, when they spend the year making the Christian festival rounds. That is NOT evangelizing.

And before you spout off about me feeling like one of the people you're talking about, check up. I don't see any problem in my voicing my opinion about the current state of the CCM industry, and find it funny that people would take offense at an opinion. Don't roll into a thread trying to play the 'wise old sage' role, please.

And when these bands make the move to the club & bar scene to play to the lost, CCM radio does not help promote the event cause it's in an "evil bar".

SWITCHFOOT-they stopped making a good album since, well they never made a good album. I love them though for keepin it real for christ but music just is not there thing

Bashing? I was talking about non-Christian people who bash non-Christian bands. I know for certain that the Love of Christ would never allow one Christian to bash a Christian band.

I never met a Christian that would bash another Christian (band) in public. Especially if that person was trying their best to honor God.

No real Christian would attack another (Jesus) man's servant.


Ricky Nelson, one of the first Rock and Roll singers wrote a song called "Garden Party." It said, "Went to a Garden Party. They all knew my name. They didn't recognise me. I didn't look the same." The story goes that he went to Madison square garden, but he had changed and his audience didn't appreciate his new look or song. They wanted the old stuff. He got booed off the stage. Sounds like now.

I'll bet the Christian performers that are in those bands are reading these posts. I'll bet they are very bummed at the fact that their efforts are not tickling your pleasure bone. They will probably now go back to doing what they were doing before. Not producing the best that they can.

Remember that Satan is the accuser of the brothren. That means that it is his job to say that we stink. Does your father know that you got a new Job? From the previous post, I assume the job description is "bashing."

I guess I'm treading in "music-snob" territory here according to Wise-Old Jonteel, but, having been a musician for the past two decades, I've earned the right to voice my opinion on which bands I think are good (strictly in a musical sense), and which bands I think aren't. The guys in Switchfoot are all top-notch, man...yup...

Now, music is art and if art was a science, then anyone could do it. In other words, it ain't easy!!! Try it if you think it's so easy. One dude (righteous) said that the musicians in a certain band were high quality. But, they didn't produce something that the man liked, so he said they should bail. That ain't cool, and it proves my point.

Consider this, some people really like Country and Western, and they despise Metal. Some despise Rap. It seems that the "stars" make their fans very happy, so the art that they produce, is valued. If all "stars" quit becasue they got a thousand hate letters, then there would be no stars.

Walt Disney had a motto. Make what the people will like. If any of you is an artist, well, you know how hard it is to produce a winner.

For those of you who don't try, well, once again, if someone is trying, then let them alone. If you are a couch potato, don't shoot down the artists that we have. You've named a lot of artists. If they quit, or if even one of them quit (because of you,) then God may not be happy with your "crusade."

I am over 50 years old, and I remember back when there was a very small group of Christian (contemporary)musicians and they all produced horrible music. We didn't try to shut them up. If we did, then you wouldn't have CCM or the huge Christian Music industry.
