  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

There aren't that many Christian anime (and I believe most of the ones that exist were commissioned from outside Japan) because there aren't that many Japanese Christians. Because there was fierce persecution of the church there at the same time that Japan became highly isolationist (and Japan wasn't considered as high of priority to convert as other Asian nations, which made things worse.) Then Japan opened relations to the world again. Then they made Shintoism into a state religion. Then we nuked the most Catholic city in Japan. So Christianity hasn't had an easy time of it in Japan.

Though I guess I should end that by saying that the last 50 years or so haven't been so bad in theory for Christianity, but the history of it all means that there are few Christians left. The big problem now is that Japan is so secular that they are barely Shinto or Buddhist anymore, so that few them are interested in converting to a religion (when they don't take religion seriously already.)

you would have to define what you mean by christian... there are many with christian influences such as 'D Gray Man' or 'Chrono Crusade'

but if you are looking for strictly christian bible thumpin anime then it gets much much tougher to find any...

It is like finding a needle in a haystack. There are a lot of animes indeed but having an anime with such themes too rare. The number of Christians in Japan is too little, like having an oasis in a very wide desert. Sometimes, I wished that the Americans, Russians, Filipinos, and Koreans send missionaries there to do a strategic "convert-the-pagan" conversion operation.

I don't know of any that distinctly relate to the Christian religion, but I know of some mangas that, as far as I can remember, didn't have any material that I would have found offensive as a Christian. They weren't intended for very mature audiences though, so that was probably why.

Also all of Miyazaki's movies are pretty morally sound, unless the use of magic bothers you.
Maybe less so of Princess Mononoke. Good movie anyway though.

There's a very girlish one that my sister read, which was about God and Satan and Angels, but it's not at all like real Christianity. It had it's basis in it, at least. I'm having to remember it, but it was called "Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne" with calling back to "Joan of Arc" and such.

Overall, not a BAD manga, but depending on your viewpoint, a bit skewed.

Trinity Blood has some hints of Catholicism. The AX Squad on that show was organized to defend the Vatican.

I don't know if I would call it hints. It is very overtly Catholic (aside from the female bishops), although the main plot line really is the conflict between the humans and vampires.
