• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christ as Ointment

I see the spirit of Christ as ointment.

Ointment heals wounds and sores.

There can be a physical, and emotional and an intellectual healing.

"I am the way the truth and the life"

"God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them."

"It is the spirit that quickeneth (gives life)...the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

Christianity is at heart a pro-life, pro health, pro-wisdom (which understands the benefit in union of the former two) doctrine.

Denial of Christ (or of the spirit of the teaching) automatically leads to self destruction, or "hell". Following it leads to flourishing well being, "heaven".

Even if you are not religious, you might at least sympathise with this philosophical-ethical perspective. A source code for success.

Amen.

But can one not be a self consciously life elevating "practicing Christian" (think of a secular doctor, bear with me) without being a believing Christian (i.e a theistic believer), and then be saved? I would say if you live the life life, then God would approve. It is those who live the life of death and decay that will reap the bad fruits - one's professing Christian belief or otherwise. In the proverbs it says she (wisdom) brings life - and IIRC Christ as logos is equated with wisdom. I would conclude thar Christ could potentially see himself in some atheists, if not wholly then at least in "spirit" where and when they elevate life.

On the other hand it is said that many will say "Lord Lord" and prophecy in his name and be denied - I never knew you, as you did not do my Father's will - perhaps because he is there in theory but not in spirit.

Thoughts?

Possibly, and over time, the practical Christians yet intellectual atheists may be led by the Spirit to become a Christian, but salvation comes through Christ alone through faith alone. Works are a way to confirm your salvation, but if you've never been saved, no amount of works can justify a nonexistent salvation. God of course is merciful, and may allow the salvation of the practical atheist if they would have believed in Christ, but I leave that up to God's judgement, I claim not to speak for Him in that manner.

We each will appear before Him, naked and exposed "before the eyes of Him with which we have to do."

Personally, I would not want what you have said here to be my final answer before Him on that Day.

Faith in Jesus Christ gives a christian spiritual life. A christian who is alive in their faith will do good works as a result of that faith in Christ.

A person following teachings or commandments without faith in Jesus is like a well-dressed but brain-dead person on a ventilator machine. No matter how well maintained the appearance is by health staff or how healthy the limbs appear on the surface the person is clinically dead.

A non-believer in Christ is spiritually dead.
