  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you use premade curriculum or design your own?

I'm a college minister who really enjoys teaching. I typically create my own curriculum.

So out of curiosity, I'm wondering what other ministers do for curriculum. Do you create your own or use/buy premade curriculum? Do you use study books or just kind of combine research from a bunch of different places? If you buy curriculum, where do you get it?

Basically, what's your teaching prep process?

In my ministry (which is all ages), I'd say I'm about a 65/35 split for premade vs. home-made. I especially like premade programs which have video components so that my congregation gets to hear other voices. I also tend to buy programs for the younger kids since that's a bit outside my comfort zone. The prep process in general starts with figuring out what I want to cover. Then I tend to use Google, evaluate whatever I find, and make my own if there isn't anything which fits what I'm looking for.
