Choking Yourself

Just a little background, My family and I decided on a vacation for the year and decided we would be gone for a week. I also have a dog who hates sleeping in the cold. She always sleeps in the kitchen or the entry way and always gets let out in the morning to spend most of her day outside checking things out on her usual schedule.

Heres the story..... My dog Reba didnt get let out this particular morning and she knew something was different. Something in her schedule was off. When we tied a leash onto her collar (something we never do because we live in the country) she was really concerned. We got her into our vehicle and drove to town to drop her off for the week. As soon as she smelled the veterinary clinic she decided that it was time to be very good and that maybe her behavior would warrant a quick in and out ordeal. She was very kind in the vets office and on her best behavior. It was time for me to pull off her collar and put the choker rope around her neck because she was to stay here while we went on vacation. We turned for the door and she began pulling on that choker will all her might at a last desperate attempt to get out of this place. She would have choked herself if we hadnt walked out the door. She would have died right there, committed suicide. Half because she didnt want to stay and half because she loved us too much for us to leave her there.

Do you have a choker around your neck? Are you pulling as hard as you can against the rope that God is holding? Do you care that as you pull toward the door and the rope around your neck gets tighter?

Sometimes we want something so badly that we dont care what God would want us to do. We dont care that we are killing ourselves in the process. So before you make that hard bolt for the door, think about what the consequences might be.

What a glorious illustration of spiritual warfare! Yes, I definitely have that problem. Sometimes I'm scared to put my entire trust in God to send me a lifemate. Most of the time (being the control freak that I am) I want God to leave me to my own devices and then I'll resort to Him as a back-up plan. I know I can't do that and it requires alot of prayer and discipline on my part to hand God the reigns and trust Him to take control.

Great illustration! Something I tell my dog when she pulls too hard on her leash when we're walking is "this would be so much easier if you would just cooperate!"...I have often smiled and thought that's probably what God thinks about me too!

This is really quite poignant. So poignant in fact that I can perhaps literally feel the choker around my through already.

Question: Using this metaphor, how do we know how to act? Is it not possible that a demon could be holding the choker rope and torturing us for its own pleasure?

Good analogy, Chevy. I hate to admit it, but I have certainly been in the position were I have pulled in a different direction then were God intended for me to go. It is much easier when I finally said, "Ok God, you win. I'll quit fighting you." Of course, there are still times, I yank on that rope a bit, still trying to find my way.
