Thank you so-much
These forums have me always looking at my blessings
Not just those I have been in receipt of
but 'those' that I am and have-been able, to be to-others

God Bless my Family and Friends in Jesus

I found this on Facebook

"Twas The Night Before Christmas"
~By James M Schmidt

'Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one-bedroom house made of plaster and stone.
I had come down the chimney, with presents to give
and to see just who in this home did live.
As I looked all about, a strange sight I did see,
no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree.
No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand.
On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land.
With medals and badges, awards of all kind,
a sobering thought soon came to my mind.
For this house was different, unlike any I’d seen.
This was the home of a U.S. Marine.
I’d heard stories about them, I had to see more,
so I walked down the hall and pushed open the door.
And there he lay sleeping, silent, alone, Curled up on the floor
in his one-bedroom home.
He seemed so gentle, his face so serene,
Not how I pictured a U.S. Marine.
Was this the hero, of whom I’d just read?
Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?
His head was clean-shaven, his weathered face tan.
I soon understood, this was more than a man.
For I realized the families that I saw that night,
owed their lives to these men, who were willing to fight.
Soon around the Nation, the children would play,
And grown-ups would celebrate on a bright Christmas day.
They all enjoyed freedom, each month and all year,
because of Marines like this one lying here.
I couldn’t help wonder how many lay alone,
on a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home.
Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye.
I dropped to my knees and I started to cry.
He must have awoken, for I heard a rough voice,
“Santa, don’t cry, this life is my choice
I fight for freedom, I don’t ask for more.
My life is my God, my country, my Corps.”
With that he rolled over, drifted off into sleep,
I couldn’t control it, I continued to weep.
I watched him for hours, so silent and still.
I noticed he shivered from the cold night’s chill.
So I took off my jacket, the one made of red,
and covered this Marine from his toes to his head.
I put on his T-shirt of scarlet and gold,
with an eagle, globe and anchor emblazoned so bold.
And although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride,
and for one shining moment, I was Marine Corps deep inside.
I didn’t want to leave him so quiet in the night,
this guardian of honor so willing to fight.
But half asleep he rolled over, and in a voice clean and pure,
said “Carry on, Santa, it’s Christmas Day, all secure.”
One look at my watch and I knew he was right,
Merry Christmas my friend, Semper Fi and goodnight.

Note:
Written by James M. Schmidt in 1986 when he was a Lance Corporal
stationed at Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C.
In December 2002, Mr. Schmidt stated that in 1986
he wrote this poem to hang on the door of the gym in the enlisted quarters.
When his commanding officer saw the poem,
he immediately had copies sent throughout the Barracks,
and promptly dismissed the entire Battalion early for Christmas leave

After I had 'dropped' Mary off at her daughter's [for a few hours] this pm
I returned home to find a gas fitter outside our door

He had come for the Annual Gas Safety Check..
After 15 minutes or so, he departed
saying "All-Clear ...perfect score... see you next-year"

LOL "Hello-Goodbye"

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!!

I'm back...we had a nice time...and yes, I am blessed!
One is my blood sister, 10 years younger, and the other is a step-sister (my age); but we NEVER say 'step'....always just SISTER...and then answer questions later
Since my Mother passed 2 years ago, we get together every month (and connect in between)

I hope you have a nice outing angelwind

Happy your gas check went well Dave

Hi you two...I did piddle around out in the Christmas crowds...got some little things for a friend and then groceries. It is windy here today...cold and sunny. I am so looking forward to driving to Eric's next week, we will take the coastal route and go thru Santa Barbara...it is a very pretty drive.

I think I am sort of bursting with Christmas joy...the Jesus kind of joy...yeah, it is nice.

Thank you Sis' Gail .... He left without checking on our smoke alarms and CO detector
and, when I questioned him re: the CO detector, he told me it wasn't his responsibility
and that I should contact the Fire Department [Brigade] re: battery renewal

LOL, on Monday, I will phone the Local Housing Authority
because, their 'advance notice' to us, re: the safety check
mentions
in BLACK AND WHITE, that those items would also be tested
This is certainly not the kind of safety measures that one might expect
from 'a responsible authority'... ~heads can roll [?]
Especially, if and when
the gas engineer, has reported
"CHECKED and FOUND to be in SERVICEABLE CONDITION"
I feel like a right 'grass' ...
but if they ever FAIL... it is the health/lives of
our pets and us, that will bear the cost of the engineer's neglect

Hi Angel' Sis'

We had a flurry of snow overnight last-night
and it returned for a while this morning, followed quickly by sleet
Temp's have been 0.C all day and now, are at -2.C [ground frost]
Hope you enjoy your trip next week...
We have a number of family visits arranged [Mary's Family]
for the Christmas Holiday and also the New Year Celebrations

It's been arriving all-year and is almost here again
