  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry to hear of your problems Dave. It can be very time consuming to try to figure it all out.
Missdance I'm glad you got a router set up so you can both be on the computer at the same time. It is so much nicer.
How is everyone otherwise? All is fine here the weather is much cooler. Does anyone else suffer from insomnia? It is terrible sometimes. I don't sleep and so the next day i am dead tired but when nitetime comes it is the same thing. An awful cycle.

Sorry to hear about your insomnia, keeptrying. No, I don't have a problem sleeping, except not enough time to do it! But we have a good friend who has been battling that awfully lately. Even with sleeping pills he was not sleeping. Finally, he is sleeping taking that Lunestra drug, but he would prefer to not have to rely on it. Will be praying for you about it.:prayer: I have heard that it can be hormonal at our age, but obviously it's not always that, hence our male friend who's struggling.

Hiyah all

Well I appear to have come out on the other side of this attack

This is the warning that planted-itself upon my desktop

phce5wj0ead1.jpg

The tools I used to locate the nasties
were on a 30 day free trial
SPYWAREFIGHTER & VIRUSFIGHTER

Virusfighter found the Trojan
and Spywarefighter found the backdoor agent [Adware]
the tools were able to QUARANTINE the nasties

When I now uninstall the tools
I hope to bury the nasties forever, having nothing
in my computer that can read those quarantined files

I have tried many times[ais]
to remove MYWEBSEARCH and it's accessories
from my system

Using Windows Search Assistant
I searched for all of its files and deleted many
however, there are four files/ folders
that completely resist removal
despite my use of an old-trick... that of, first renaming them
before trying to delete, however, these
resist even the name-changing

PC, is now functioning as before and, if-anything
a little snappier
since I have also removed, some older third-party stuff
that I had 'tried-out' a while back

I actually think some of those pop up ads are themselves spy ware and I avoid them. Hope it all works out dave. Jan

Hi Jan

Thank you for your good wishes
and YES... I think I have put these things behind me
[save for the resistant files]

I am going to email MyWebSearch and challenge them
to give me 'the means' to remove their 'STUFF' from my computer
I do of-course resent, these BACKDOOR methods of 'taking control'
of a person's PC
by removing administrative authority from the PC owner
over what is or, isn't WANTED inside their PC

It is 'fine' for them to say that it's a case of, BUYER BEWARE
but they do NEED to state up-front WHAT IS INCLUDED in their package
in this case.... probably a commission
from the producer of the software, who will then, sell a removal tool

I am closing my MySpace.com membership and blocking emails from it

Who NEEDS such problems ?

I don't have full blown insomnia, but I don't sleep as well as I'd like. I thought it was our old, hard mattress, so we got a new one, but it didn't help much. Heh, I'm not much liking this getting older stuff. :) I do wish you resolution somehow, Keeptrying.

Dave . . what a frustrating waste of time, you poor thing! My computer crashed completely several years ago, and I don't know what the wonderful geeks did to fix it, but I don't have any antivirus protection since then, and I never have problems at all anymore! Not even pop-ups. It's been probably 3 years, and I wander around a fair number of sites. That's why I've hesitated to get a new laptop like I've been dreaming of, since this old 'Puter is doing so nicely! . . we had so much trouble with Norton at work, it cost us hours of down time.

Of course, there's always the possibility of upgrading to a Mac . . *grins*

I don't think I have full blown insomnia but it happens often enough that it effects my life and what I can and can't do. No fun. I can relate to what you are saying about the mattress we tried that too. My husband also has problems sleeping. It runs in the family I quess.

Wow, you don't use ANY anti-virus? I don't think I would do that. I'm glad you have not had any problems though.

Actually, I use WINDOWS DEFENDER which is, automatically updated
whenever a new threat should raise it's head

However, what these anti-vrus/ anti-spyware[Trojan] programs cannot cope with
is when the user CHOOSES to download a program [with such things enclosed]

They DO warn of possibly UNWANTED EFFECTS...
but, when, then, the user
CHOOSES to want the program anyway
They [user(s)] overrides the contrary advice of the defending program

Which is what happened to me

To view a sister's live/webspace, I had to join MySpace.com also
To make my SPACE look interesting
I selected some of that site's software, to achieve the 'looks'
I needed
and WHOOMPFFFF..... the cake, had 'unexpected ingredients'

It is beginning to look as though I might be able to clean my system
and avoid reformatting the drives
However, this depends upon
whether I can correct / bypass the damage caused

I still have no RESTORE HISTORY at-present
and a Internet Configuration Library [dll] is 'missing'
believed to be renamed / deleted
But I am getting there ONE STEP AT A TIME

I have this morning, [August 20th]
using a program called: 'HiJackThis' successfully removed from my PC
the MyWebSearch tool: 'WEBFETTI' and installer

Another name linked to that one, is: MyFunPages/ MyFunCards

All, are cautioned with-regard to these 'names'
for, the way in which these FUN items are passed on
is also a way, of acquiring email addresses from your contacts-list/ address-book

Gosh Dave, I'm just so sorry that happened to you. What a chore you have had! Thanks for the warning about myspace software. I also can't use the restore points on my computer for some reason. My husband was adding a new printer then halfway through downloading it he changed his mind and stopped it. I tried to restore it back to an earlier date since I did not have the software (he returned the printer to the store) but it would not let me. The restore points were there it just would not recognize them. No matter which date I put in it said it was not a restore point. Oh well, the computer seems to be running ok, I just wanted to get rid of the unwanted program that is half loaded. No big deal.

Hi Sis'

there are ways
to remove the bits and pieces, left over following INSTALLS to XP
called Windows Install Cleanup
You can download this from Microsoft Update [FREE]

It ensures that nothing UNEEDED is left behind

A Registry Cleaner ... also available from Microsoft for Windows XP
could pick out the bits in your registry
> those that that are now 'dislocated'

I don't yet know enough about the restore facility to advise there yet

I know how it goes. At work we just started a new system or program. They are still working on all the little things. Like freezing screens, etc. Hope the tech crew work overnight to fix everything so tomorrow will be better.
