  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Here is an e-mail my daughter-in-law sent me concerning a movie which has just been released. We need to get this word out:

Dangerous Movie

There will be a new children’s movie out in December called "The Golden Compass". T he movie has been described as "atheism for kids" and is based on the first book of a trilogy entitled "His Dark Materials" that was written by Phillip Pullman. Pullman is a militant atheist and secular humanist who despises C.S. Lewis and the "Chronicles of Narnia". His motivation for writing this trilogy was specifically to counteract Lewis’ symbolisms of Christ that are portrayed in the Narnia series.

Clearly, Pullman’s main objective is to bash Christianity and promote atheism. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "my books are about killing God." He has even stated that he wants to "kill God in the minds of children". It has been said of Pullman that he is "the writer the atheists would be praying for, if atheists prayed."

While "The Golden Compass" movie itself may seem mild and innocent, the books are a much different story. In the trilogy, a young streetwise girl becomes enmeshed in an epic struggle to ultimately defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God. Another character, an ex-nun, describes Christianity as "a very powerful and convincing mistake." In the final book, characters representing Adam and Eve eventually kill God, who at times is called YAHWEH. Each book in the trilogy gets progressively worse regarding Pullman’s hatred of Jesus Christ.

"The Golden Compass" is set to premier on December 7, during the Christmas season, and will probably be heavily advertised. Promoters hope that unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the movie, that they will enjoy the movie, and that the children will want the books for Christmas.

The above is the synopsis shared with the Muhlenberg Pastors. For additional information and verification, you can go to the Snopes.com website at: http://snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp.

Hi everyone just popping in. I was wondering if anyone has heard from jim recently? The big storm back east had me wondering if he was ok. I know he lives in quite a rural area.
I am good but had a busy weekend. Tonight I think I need to go shopping for gifts. Hope everyone is keeping well. I know on the other thread it seemed people were getting run down and very tired. Jan

I hope Jim is okay too. That storm hit a huge area--from the midwestern states to Maine, and a large portion of Canada.

outside is -2 C.
rooftops are whitened as if dusted with snow
the lawn glistens in the moonlight
as the icecrystals sparkle as I move
the sky is almost clear although cloud with a flat top
can be seen several miles away
as if, crushed from above to hug the ground
I am sure its warmer below that
The stars are out again
when you dont include the moon in your view
nor the orange-yellow [sodium tubes?] lamps
light pollution, with a public safety 'intent'

We have the heating on
but the dogs need to get OUT from time to time
I remember 'outside-toilets'
and standing 'there'
waiting for them to finish-up
puts goosebumps on my goosebumps

brrrrrrrrrr it's 'parky'
[chill-frost... exhale condenses instantly]

I hope you are all well this morning.
I have been busy trying to get things ready for Christmas.
Sometimes it's just so hard keeping up with things.
No snow in our forcast for Christmas. I love it when we get a light snow fall on christmas eve. Makes the night a little more magical.

I wanted to post a picture of my husbands Christmas village, but they come up so big. Can someone tell me what size to use at photobucket so they aren't so big.

Well I'm off to try and get some cleaning done, before the girls get out of school.
Have a great day.

Well I am officially on holiday now. We finished at lunch time and then had a nice staff lunch at a local restaurant. Tonight I will be attending a play at our church that my oldes son is in and tomorrow we will be having a community banquet. We are hoping it will be an outreach to the community I think there are 11 going just from our family circle if everyone I invited shows up. It has been a busy week and I am hoping Sunday and Monday I can finally finish up the Christmas wrapping and shopping before our candlelight service at 6pm. It is hard working right up to the wire like this but in the long run it is better because I get longer after to relax and enjoy the season.

Here is a nice Christmas banner for you all.

What? No chit chat since December 23rd????
Well! We'll just have to remedy that!
It's a glorious day here, sunny and so very mild. I think the warmth is going to lure me outside to piddle around in the yard and most assuredly to go try to count the puppies my little Bella had last night after dark!
Ok. I'm filling orders now. Who wants which one? Doesn't matter, they all look the same. You can each just close your eyes and point and that's the pup you'll get!
 Have a great day, everyone!

Claire I am so glad you revived the Chit Chat. I was thinking the same as you that is was a shame no one was using our STICKY chit chat. Alot share on He's My All's thread now I guess. jim1947 used to be a great contributer to this thread here.

WOW new puppies? That is great what kind are they? We already have one dog it used to be two but our oldest golden retreiver (15) died the first weekend in DEC. Her pal is still a bit draggy and blue about it.
Are you a dog breeder?
Our weather is overcast and cloudy with chance of rain and maybe a sunny interlude this afternoon.(I sure hope so).
I got up earlier than I wanted to to feed the dog and make breakfast for my Korean student so I may nap later or read. I just read through my entire issue of Guideposts almost in one sitting. I always enjoy them so much.
What do you plant in your garden this time of year Claire? Mine is all sleepy and dormant at the moment. We have lots of bushes that bloom in the spring. Rhododendrons and a few Azaleas and a few perennial plants that come up in the beds. I don't spend too much time garndening as I live in such a green area with a green space to my east that grows amazing ferns and other wild blooming vines and stuff. I have thought about planting bulbs in the fall but never get around to it. I do have a couple of blooming house plants that I enjoy an african violet and a christmas cactus. The cactus was sadly neglected and needs repotting but I am just reviving it now and it is wonderful to see what water and a bit of fertilizer can do.
