I thought about you several times yesterday Ariel, what a treat for you to hear your boys play! How fun!

The story you shared about your boys getting into playing the violin caused me to think about my son's desire to sing while in school. I wasn't as encouraging as you were and tried to discourage him from doing this. I felt it was a 'waste of time' and his time should be spent trying to improve his academics. I knew he would need scholarships to go to college. Well, he did some research into the matter, consulted with the music dept. at his school and then presented it all to me. After praying, I relented and agreed to let him try it for one year. Well, that was just the beginning. He sang all through high school, received many scholarships to college in music and academics, sang all through college and sings with a semi-professional group currently. Every time I hear him sing, I think about what I almost stopped....and thank the Lord for His intervention. So thanks for sharing your story!

One of my sons took the violin brielfy just after my youngest was born. Parents had to bee super involved attending lessons (with baby in the bucket car seat) and practising 20 minutes a day with the child. WE each had our own violin and I was into it but he was not so my husband suggested we both quit. Nagging was bad for my mental health. The thing was he did fine at the recitals. It was the suzuki method so was very repetitious. He ended up excelling in singing and sang with a local boys choir fo a few years. One summer he even got to go to Holland and sing in some very lovely old churches and cathedrals. All of my kids are musical in one form or anothe, even my son who is disabled. It is great. Jan

What a thrill it must be for you to see musical abilities in all of your sons! How special!

I played clarinet, saxophone and organ, but I am limited to the occasional stab at a keyboard now. Music is great for so many reasons. When I was frustrated in ministry, I used to go to the church, open up all stops and play full blast at 3 in the morning.

In one church we had a plug-in connection to the house of a former founder of the church. She was an invalid and it was a way to provide services for her. I didn't check to see if the switch was on. She was very polite, but the church phone startd to ring, and she asked if I would mind closing a few stops...She wasn't up to singing that morning..........Why do people blush even when no one is looking?

Cheers,

Jim

Hi all,
Well I to haven't felt much like posting here lately(everything gets hijacked) but feel I want to say Hello to you all. I used to play the clarinet in school and loved it. Music was the way I kept from getting into trouble. My parents never had to tell me to practice, sometimes they had to tell me "time to do homework, or time to go outside and play", but never to practice. Always wanted to do something with the clarinet but in those days there wasn't much out there for women and a instrument. So it is here now and the Grandson tried it for a while, but gave up , but might go back to it next year. I must say it did give me a love of good music which I appreciate to this day.
Nice seeing all of you here and posting. I am here quite a bit just quietly reading, not posting been quite discouraged in that department.
Bless you all
Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,
Good to hear from you. I'm sorry you have been staying away from posting but glad you are reading. I think I know what you are talking about and that can certainly be discouraging.
Any possibility you may take up the clarinet again too? I played the violin and guitar for years but stopped when my babies started coming. My 'babies' are now 30 & 26! Someday I think about taking up the guitar again. Maybe I will.
Hope to hear more from you!

Aw, what a nice set of posts!

Hi Ariel,

What are you planning on doing in your garden this year? We really need some rain here as the soil is very dry already. The greenhouse is beginning to look quite colourful now tho'.Blessings

Leytonstones, how wonderful that you have a greenhouse! That's awesome!

In the city I live in in West Texas, we ironically don't have very large back yards (you could see that in the pond pictures I posted). Instead, we have an alley behind our homes, and a place where a large trash bin is stationed every 160 feet or so. So, given the fact that our yards are shortened so that the big old trash trucks can lumber through the back alley, a lot of us have taken to gardening in the five foot wide strip of land that extends from our back fence to the alley, and runs the length of our property. My husband and I call this space "the north 400"--400 feet, that is.

We grow tomatoes, peppers (hot on one side, sweet on the other), eggplant, green beans, and several kinds of summer and winter squash. Those crops have been the most successful to date.

The list of UNsuccessful crops is much longer. We have very alkaline soil, and I admit this is the only way I miss the east coast, which did not have such soapy soil!

Wow. The Lord guided you! But look at what you did: you prayed. What an awesome testimony!

Isn't it amazing how you might have a baby, and don't have any idea what you have until that little one begins blooming. And then you think, where did this come from? My two oldest sons are chemical engineers. Where did that come from? Chemistry was my worst subject in college, the only one I made C's in--and my husband is a business professor. Go figure.

I am so glad that the Lord guided you. Here you have the fruit--a talented son doing just what God wants him to do. Awesome!

Oh Jan, I know about those Suzuki lessons. One of my older kids started Suzuki and then dropped out. I didn't even try with the younger two. I am so happy for you and your son that he had the opportunity to sing. How wonderful that he was able to even travel and use his talent!

Lol, Jim, that's funny that a shut in wouldn't want anyone to hear her sing!

Jim, it sounds like your musical talent was also a solace to you. Testimonies like yours are the reason that I hope my sons continue with their instruments. I hope that some day they will be able to find the emotional outlet and healing of playing music.

All stops out at 3 AM? Jim, it must have been something to hear you play!

Hey Bonnie, it's so nice to see your post. I've been missing you!

Yes, I heard of people like you who loved their instrument so much that their parents had to tell them to stop. My husband was like you, too. He said he loved the French horn, and practiced up to six hours a day in high school. Alas, that my sons could be more like you! They still need the mama-reminder, they are so tired at the end of their day.

Yes, I believe as you do that taking an instrument helps appreciation of music. And who knows? Maybe you could take it up again, or like Jim go to keyboard.

Alright, y'all. Here's a challenge for us all! Take up our instruments again! Yes!

Well, why not?

Wow, a lot of talent here. At school I played the descant and tenor recorders and the violin. I did try the clarinet but couldn't get so much as a sqeak from it!! - I didn't know then that I was asthmatic. I have always loved the violin and wish I had continued with it. One of my favourite pieces is Mendelson's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Ariel, I love my greenhouse. It is getting rather full of young fuchsias at the moment and I have quite a few geraniums in there too. I have some seeds coming on in my electric propogator. I sowed Basil seeds yesterday to grow in among my tomato plants. I plan on taking Leo for a walk to the garden centre later (Leo loves shopping and the garden centre is one on the few places that will admit a dog) as I had forgotten to buy and sow peppers and lobelia this year. I will see what is available and maybe even see if there are any different tomato plants. This year I am growing Gardener's Delight. I expect Dave will be familiar with that variety if he is a gardener. It is quite popular over here.

Well, the sunshine beckons so time to turn the computer off. Later folks.

Blessings

Glad to see so many familiar faces back to share here. On the music vein my second youngest joined band in Grade 5 and as we had an available clarinet that was his instrment. He plugged away at it but then wanted a saxaphone. For the big plunge into High School we got him a tenor sax and although he tried and did band till grade 10 he finally dropped that. Needless to say we were a bit frustrated and now stuck with an expensive instrument no one would play. However, gramma to the rescue offered to pay for guitar lessons for him. It took about 8 and then his teacher said he's learned all I can teach him. He is now a very gifted guitarist. His style is a lttle unconventional but he loves it. He has posted some clips on the net. My prayer is that he will have the confidences to go somewhere with that talent. My disabled son watched the older bro go through the drum phase. I think all 3 and 4 year old boys do anyway he copiedhim and just kept at it. When we finally got him lessons the drum teacher was amazed at his ear. He copied all the sounds correctly and just needed help with proper sticking techniques. He now plays in worship at our church. AS does the singer I mentioned earlier who has returned to playing bass guitar. When the guitarist gets saved we will have quite a band right?

I've never posted in 'Chit Chat' before, but it sure seems to be the most pleasant thread in this forum.
All the talk about music and talent, you must all be proud of your loved ones in their accomplishments. I know I am. I thank the Lord constantly for my childrens' talents and thank Him for allowing me to share it with them in so many ways.
My home church is in a little town about a half hour away, in a small town of less than one thousand. There is a park across the road from the church that is absolutely beautiful year round. Three or four times a year, my church hosts a concert. Everyone in the town is invited to bring their instrument and join in. And if you don't play, you come and sing. There is always a good turnout. No one person is showcased, everyone is equal. It is straight out of the storybook setting. It is remarkable. What a blessing for that small town.

As for the lack of posting in the Golden Eagles Forum, it is a shame that some don't post just to avoid conflict.
I come here to find comfort among my peers. I hope that everyone can come back to the way it should be. Maybe concentrated prayer would help.

Why not, just for a lark, be somebody else for a while?

Well, for starters, it’s often illegal, and it’s not always as simple as it sounds. But there is a certain class of persons who remain undaunted in the face of these problems and enjoy the adventures.

Ordinary shmos get into the impostor act when it’s convenient and easy or when they’re driven by some poorly-understood compulsion. Much about human nature is for the purpose of controlling others and they get a kick out of using their control daily.

Some poor shmucks create bogus email accounts to confuse a friend. This can also include bogus characters in forums.

Whatever their reasons, Im no expert to define it here. I just don’t like being manipulated by some pathetic minded person who is using the ruse to scam folks along the way.

With a little imagination and panache, you can be anyone you want. Or you can not be someone you are. Or, with a little luck, someone else may decide to be you. Good heavens, the options are many! You could even be someone entirely new.

Like mama said when we were “little shafers”…"Be ware of strangers”

Not sure what prompted that post Springrain. I sure hope you don't feel you are being scammed by anyone of us here in the ge nest. I have thought about the computer though and how it is easy to say things that aren't really who we are. As no one really knows us it is impossible to discern completely and accurately.
That said I do prefer to take people that post here on the face value and go from there assuming them to be honest and true to God. Jim I love your sense of humour.

Here is the last bird picture. The canary picture was very tiny so I didn't bother with it. I will try finding another one later. This is the Bluejay. They are beautiful but my mom hated them because they would bully the other song birds and steal their nests. I do see them from time to time in my yard. Jan

Annie here is a hummingbird for you. Isn't it pretty. Jan

Thank you for this beautiful green hummingbird Jan
And
of the Colors I asked about:
1. Red-cardinals
2. Orange Finches
3. Yellow Canaries
4. (i got some White doves, already)
5. Green-hummingbirds
6. Blue-jays
7. Male peacocks

here I thought that Cardinals are all red; shows you what I know & the same with
Finches. Don't they come in orange, sometimes. Maybe I have them mixed-up
Anyway,
I am unable to rep you (like I promised, & wanted to) for these 2 that you posted in
my Guestbook, because there - your little REP-thumb does not show. ~ So,
if you DO find some all-red Cardinals, and orange-Finches, please post them here, and
I will Gladly rep you for these also. Hopefully they exist

Now to repping your Bluejay Annie

Hi Jan

Thank you for giving of your time, in this fashion. I DO appreciate it, & have repped you.

(one of these days, I'll figger-out the destructions that Dave cared to print up for us-2, &
then I'll be able to Fill-UP (my Photobucket account I've had for a year now) ~
Also,
this explained (as I did previously) my reason for posting *ALL those pictures-threads* here, -
(because I don't YET know how to do my Photobucket acct). ~ But
after I was so Horribly-accused by one of this nest's Bullies ~ I am now posting all such, in 3 other threads in CF, in the "ALL members section". ~

And Jan, here's the thing, I came to CF for 3 reasons:
1.
Cheer people's *Healings on... while giving them
opportunity to Cheer me* on... also (in my Skating-thread).

&
2. to see IF associating with other christians would encourage me going back to church.
&
3.
Encourage people to continue... Learning FUN new-skills.

This is the Bluejay. They are beautiful

but my mom hated them because they would bully the other song birds and steal their nests.
I do see them from time to time in my yard. Jan
Yes,
I quite agree (about bullies whether Birds, or People).

When we lived in Fla. we had Bluejays everywhere; that
prolly explains why we didn't have much of other birds.

Starting in my childhood,
I've stood up to people-bullies a # of times, as philosophically I am opposed.
Unfortunately, I have encountered 4-bullies right here in this nest
(2 of whom masqueraded as "friends", until they dumped their emotional toxicities).

Thank you once again for your kindness Jan.

Annie

You already know so much more about graphics than I do Annie. Jan
Well Jan ~
Obviously, you're ahead of me now , but this is ok; as
this is no race to see who understands it first, eh?

One of these days, I'll figger out *how to do my Photobucket acct*

at any rate, I've Repped you 5-x ; so - you're over 50,000 now Jan Annie

I was going to try to post with some humor, saying something like "I am not who I am, I am not me, I am you, who are you?" or something idiotic like that, so I googled the phrase "who am I" and this is what I found:

Who Am I?
by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Dietrich Bonhöffer, a young theologian of great promise, was martyred by the Nazis for his participation in a plot against the life of Adolf Hitler. His writings have greatly influenced recent theological thought. This article appeared in the Journal Christianity and Crisis, March 4, 1946.

Who am I? They often tell me
I stepped from my cell’s confinement
Calmly, cheerfully, firmly,
Like a squire from his country-house.
Who am I? They often tell me
I used to speak to my warders
Freely and friendly and clearly,
As though it were mine to command.
Who am I? They also tell me
I bore the days of misfortune
Equally, smilingly, proudly,
Like one accustomed to win.

Am I then really all that which other men tell of?
Or am I only what I myself know of myself?
Restless and longing and sick, like a bird in a cage,
Struggling for breath, as though hands were
compressing my throat,
Yearning for colors, for flowers, for the voices of birds,
Thirsting for words of kindness, for neighborliness,
Tossing in expectation of great events,
Powerlessly trembling for friends at an infinite distance,
Weary and empty at praying, at thinking, at making,
Faint, and ready to say farewell to it all?

Who am I? This or the other?
Am I one person today and tomorrow another?
Am I both at once? A hypocrite before others,
And before myself a contemptibly woebegone weakling?
Or is something within me still like a beaten army,
Fleeing in disorder from victory already achieved?
Who am I? They mock me, these lonely questions of mine.
Whoever I am, Thou knowest, 0 God, I am Thine!

After I read this, I decided that it would be better to pass something like this on, rather than to try and be too lighthearted about the fears of Springrain.
I have often wondered if I were ever in a situation where I had to pray for my life, really, diligently pray hard and ferverishly, while all around me were taunting me with evil and temptation that would snap out of my world and straight into the fires of hell in a moment, could I? I hope I could. I hope I can if it ever happens. But in the same breath that I think I could, I also want to not even think about it, to not have the suspiscions and the worries about it, and about other people.
Springrain is a good, good soul. I shudder to think I would have anything to do with her post. And I shudder just as much to think anyone else on here prompted her words.
Sometimes the Golden Eagles Forum is like a high school click, with all the problems and backstabbing and mud slinging that goes along with that sort of thing.
But more times than not, you can find comfort here. Comfort in an unseen face, but one with a common bond, that of the love of the Lord.
As wonderful as it would be to never have to hear of any pain or arguement on here, that's just not how it is in this world. But the pain that we do share on here should never ever come from one another! And the arguements should be ones we learn from, not create amid the members. Everyone has special needs, different needs. Anyone professing to be a Christian must realize this, and make any allowances needed for others. I made one remark on this forum I truly regret. And one person on here saw it for what it was.
I have every intention of doing my best for all of you from now on, even though I am not one of the busy posters, or should I say frequent.
I feel I know so many of you just by your posts.
We have this amazing opportunity to fellowship here, to joke, to laugh, to cry, to comfort.
We all, every one of us, pushed those nails into that cross with our sins. And we all, every one of us, knows that. There. Another common bond.
Sigh. End Rant.
God bless you all.
