  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Chinchillas are soo qute. The only ones I've met are also really sweet (they just might have been spoiled). I've never personally owned one though.

My uncle bought a whole bunch to raise for fur. He realized they were too cute and he couldn't go through with it. He ended up selling most of them.

Chillas are the sweetest critters. Their fur is INCREDIBLY soft and they have quite the little personalities.

We just heard recently that you can actually train them to "fetch" and "roll over." It was rather surprising news, and we may try it and see if it's actually possible.

I saw some in a pet store once. Cutest faces! What are their personalities like?

Chinchillas are a lot like people, they've all very different. Some are extroverted, some are introverted, and a lot of it all depends on how much you play with them too.

My chin is only 2 months old, and I spend a lot of time with him so he's really used to me. He likes when I put my hand in his cage because he loves climbing on top of it and resting his head on my hand.

Chins also LOVE to play! if you have a small chin-proof room to let them run in they could go for hours. They bank off of walls, jump, and the cutest of all is when they're playing and they're really excited they squeak when they run.

NOTE: if you're ever going to get a chin I'd do a lot of research on these guys, because they are exotic pets, you can't just throw them in any old cage with any old food and expect them to be happy...and also, if you'd ever get one, DON'T get one from a pet store, the reason that they're at the pet store is because they were either the runt of the litter, they're unhealthy, or they have bad territorial personalities. There are breeders all over, and that way you can choose from all of the different furr colors.

I went to my first chinchilla show this weekend!! IT WAS AMAZING!!! I have never seen so many fat fuzzy chins in all my life! I wish that everyone could go to a chinchilla show at least once in their life.

I got my second chin there, he's black and white, veryyyy pretty!! I <3 him lots!

Oh geez......I bet that was overwhelming, to be surrounded by so much amazing cuteness!

What are your 'chillas names?

It's true, there was a TON of cuteness in the room! The little chins were all so adorable, I wanted to take them all home.

I named my chins Milo & Otis after the movie about a pug and a cat who are best friends.

A good friend of mine I've grown up with is from a family that breeds chins, and if there's one thing they say people need to know it's that as they grow older these animals can and frequently do (I believe they told me every three out of five) get very nasty and intolerant of handling. But as youngins they sure are bundles of fun and love!

Blessings,

I think that most pets generally do get more crabby as they get older. My friend also breeds chins, hers aren't AS friendly because she has so many that she can't handle them all every day, and handing aside, she can't get them all out and let them run around for exercise.

My experience with chins is that if you have one or two as pets they're a lot sweeter because they get a lot of attention, they know you well, and they get to run around a lot more. Granted, both of mine are really young, but they're both really sweet, they havn't shown any signs of being territorial (I.E. spraying their pee!! eek). But we'll see! Hopefully your're not right, cause I want my baby chins to be really nice as they get older!!! but I'll still love them anyway, even if they get mean.
