What kind of question is that?

If I asked a college professor that, he'd probably say, "What?"

Could you restate your question, please?

A college professor would have no trouble with the question. In fact I can't think of anyone who would have trouble with the question except someone who doesn't like the answer they come up with.

It is, though, the question we all have to ask ourselves, as the evidence of our senses is all we have.

I expect that kind of talk from an atheist.

And for the record, the only other two I would expect it from would be scientists and those not of the Christian faith.

You don't think Christians who are not YEC Bible literalists (i.e. most of them) would talk to you like that?

Would the evidence of your senses have told you to be a Bible literalist.
Science gives us tons and tons and tons of physical evidence for the Bible. Lets just forget everything that we have NO evidence for. Now tell me why you do not accept the scientific evidence for what we can verify is accurate and true in the Bible? Why are you so quick to reject Science when Science can verify the truth we find in the Bible? We have overwhelming evidence in every area of science to verify that the Bible is accurate and true. People can deny all they want to deny, but they will still be held accountable. SPOILER ALERT: Jesus conquered death, hell and the grave. He led captivity captive and we need to wake up and sing a song of Victory.

Oh, I am sorry, I thought you knew something about Darwin's theory of evolution. I guess I was wrong about that. I will take that into consideration for future reference that people that claim to believe in Darwin's theory know nothing about it.
1) I've never claimed to believe in Darwin's theory, so please don't put words into my mouth. What I believe in is the modern synthesis - it is to Darwin's theory what quantum mechanics is to Newton's theory.

2) My point was that your claim has no Biblical basis. How you concluded that I know nothing about Darwin's archaic and outdated theory, is beyond me.

If you think Eden referred to the entire Earth, then where were Adam and Eve banished to? Neptune again?
Of course not.

Have you read Genesis 1-3?

God created Eden -- a supercontinent -- then planted a Garden in the eastern (Oriental) part of it and placed Adam there.

From there, He created Eve and brought her to Adam, and they got married.

As we like to say, God created the chapel that Adam & Eve got married in.

Later, after the Fall, they were banned from the Garden.

Your question implies that the Garden of Eden ... not Eden itself ... is what is called Pangaea.

(Or did you feign ignorance in order to get that little bit of ridicule in there?)

Just out of curiosity, does the Bible refer to Eden as a supercontinent?

And also, why are you so keen for Eden to be a 300 million year old supercontinent? Seems a bit inconsistent. Although somehow I don't suppose that worries you.

No -- supercontinent is just a descriptive term.

Link, please?

Try and find a like to where I said that, and your inconsistency should evaporate.
Although somehow I don't suppose that worries you.
No, indeed.

No, indeed.

You said it as early as post number 3 in this thread.

Look, Pangaea is a 300 million year old supercontinent. You are the one who insists that Eden and Pangaea are the same thing, not me. If you want to change your mind now, it's OK.

If you don't want to understand, that's your prerogative.

Just don't include me in your mental block.

ETA: It figures. You've got a Secret-Sam profile; so I can't find a bone of contention to expose for ridicule. You're smart. :)

I wish I could remember if you were one of those 30-year wonders (i.e., ex-Christian), then I could rub your face in it for not knowing that Eden and Pangaea should be the same.

I understand perfectly. You've tried to co-opt the supercontinent Pangaea for your own ends and it's all gone a bit wrong.

"30-year wonders"? That sounds like a slam.

, then I could rub your face in it for not knowing that Eden and Pangaea should be the same.

In all my years of church I was never, ever, ever taught that Eden and Pangaea were the same thing.

Never.

So how could you "rub someone's face" in not knowing this?

Perhaps you are slamming people for not being in your particular congregation. Because this is not in any stretch of the imagination, by any metric whatsoever a "standard" concept in Christianity.

Not. Even. Close.

Many people do not realize that the Eden we read about in the Bible was not the ONLY Eden. In China they have the Yellow River area. This is the Bio-diverse Ecosystem where rice grew wild and is now domesticated. Not only the grains, but also the vegetables or herbs in China are different from what you find in Mesopotamia in the Middle East.

We do not see flooding along the Euphrates River as much anymore. The area is over developed and the water is sold for profit. Today we do still see flooding in China, along the Yellow River. Flooding that has been going on for thousands of years. Still this is very productive futile land. The floods leave very rich soil where farmers can grow and produce a lot of food.

Mesopotamia,China, how about the Nile while we are at it?..It floods yearly leaving behind rich silt also, turning the desert green.
Sounds "Edenish" to me!

What a sweet nature you have.

As you seem to save up your worst vitriol for those ex-fundamentalists who abandon religion after coming to their senses in middle age, you'll be glad to know that I didn't undergo any sort of indoctrination as a child, and have no proper religious background. I'm English, don't you know.

There, doesn't that make you feel better?

What, then, is Pangaea in the 'standard concept' of Christianity? Edom? Egypt? Galilee? Gaul? Tyrus?

What, exactly?
Not. Even. Close.
Is Hell a 'standard concept' (basic doctrine) of Christianity?
