I answered this in the friendship court, but here I'll repeat some and share more scary memories:

Stand by Me
Fraggle Rock (there is an awesome punk version of this theme song available on the net)
MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice
Hypercolour t-shirts, and the pink tshirts that inspired companies to design a shirt with more colour.
"River Raid" on the Atari 2600
C64 1541 disk drive (I was the first person I knew to own one of these! I was probably more popular during this time of my life than I ever was again)
The C64 games I most remember: Last Ninja and Pirates.
Mikhail Gorbachev's purple birthmark on his forehead
The Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher
You can't do that on Television was awesome, I forgot all about that! Thanks for the remind msjones!
Wham **shudder**
New Kids on the Block
I remember those Happy Meal containers too, thanks for the remind Kokopelli!
Mullets
Cyndi Lauper
Star Wars toys (I'm bitter about this, I always wanted to be Bobba Fett, but I also got to chose last, and everyone else wanted to be Bobba Fett)
That Star Wars spoof, Spaceballs (1987 it was)
MacGyver
The Goonies
Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue in Neighbours
The video for the Robert Palmer song "Addicted to Love"
Poison and Stryper and David Lee Roth's sad solo career
Ghostbusters
Young Einstein (a very funny yet very 80s Australian Yahoo Serious comedy that I saw for a friend's birthday in year 4)
Apple IIE's at school, with the monochrome green monitors
Labyrinth
Ferris Bueller's Day Off!!

It's sad ;) I found this picture of myself as a little girl (7 or 8) sitting on my bed with all my stuffed animals and dolls - pound puppy, rainbow brite, my little ponies, cabbage patch kid, and carebear - all the 80s standards all in a row!

btw - my brother said he found fraggle rock on digital cable at like 6am one morning! I told him to tape me some ...we used to watch them in French too!

...fun times!

I forgot about Gorbachev and the Ghostbusters. I remember as kid I wanted the a replica of the packs, but they didn't have them. It wasn't untill they made the cartoon, Real Ghostbusters, that they had toys of the equipment. By that time, I was told old to play with them and had discovered the wonderful world of legos and computers.

Good to know I'm not the only one old enough to forget stuff.

....at least that's what you told your friend's, right? :D I actually have a little brother 6 and a half years younger than me, who was just the right age when Real Ghostbusters came out and he got a pack. I used to sneak into his room, put on the pack and sling the plasma gun over my shoulder, and softly whisper to myself "Who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS!!". That was my therapy for having to put up with high school. ;)

Kinda makes you wonder, why was the cartoon version of Ghostbusters called the Real Ghostbusters? I saw a friend the other day who had never seen the movie too, talk about a deprived childhood!
