  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw this movie finally (recently) and after watching it I tried to picture a world without children. It is very difficult to do so. What are some things that would be gone from our world if there were no children? Do you think that it would be a scary place?

Some things I think of are laughter on the streets, the sounds of neighborhood ice cream trucks, no yellow buses taking kids home from school. Yes, the world would be a scary scary place without children, imho.

I love that movie. We had to watch it for my film and lit class. You should read the book btw.

It's definitely a depressing thought. No hope or motivation to work towards the future. I actually thought things would be more chaotic in real life. In the movie for the most part people were just plowing along, still going to work, etc.

Life with no children in it.....there would be no fun...No squeaks as the kids swing on the swings in the playground, no bike riding in the neighborhood, no happy sounds as the children splash in the pool to cool off. So many things that I would miss. Including that look in my childrens eyes when we share a special moment together, I would miss the hugs and kisses, and I know our house would be a much lonlier place without the sounds of children laughing and playing.

I know I'd have little motivation to better myself or the world around me if there were no children.

There would be no honest "you are the most beautiful lady in the world." greetings first thing in the morning. Or, random compliments to grumpy women in the grocery store that then make them smile. "You skin looks like delicious chocolate. I'd like to have chocolate skin when I grow up."

There would be no enthusiastic and nervous squeals about discovering salamanders under rocks and wondering if they are baby dragons.

Darn, I'd be depressed if there were no children.

Sounds like another book to add to my "to read" list.

I didn't know it was based off of a book! Yes, definitely going to be one of my summer reads, thanks, Adela.

I don't think adults realize the impact and the importance of children until we consider a world without them. They really help balance humanity out, imho. No wonder Jesus said that if anyone hurt one of them, it would be better to have a millstone hung around his neck. They are heaven on earth in the innocence of their spirits. In my faith, raising children is considered a type of priesthood as it requires similar qualities of what a pastor/priest of a church demands in order to rear them spiritually.

I agree. Raising children takes much sacrifice! A selfish person would make a horrible parent. The sacrifices are so worth it though. Life without chidlren would be horrible. Children are so cute and full of innocence and have so much to offer us. They change us for the better. i will have to check out this book and movie!
