Genesis 1:
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good:
and God divided the light from the darkness.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
And the evening and the morning were the first day.
What was declared good by God at creation was by reasonable
necessity also perfect. It was ordained by God from the beginning
that light and darkness be separate. The knowledge of good and
evil in the heart of man resulted in darkness displacing light.
The world thinks that there is good and bad in everyone.
This is called deception.
Children of Light cannot be partly dark, partly of the Night.
In Christ there is only Light and Truth, attained by Grace.
A believer is not under the Law of Moses because under
Grace, there is access to this pure Light of Truth, leaving
no room for compromise. The saints are fully instructed
by the apostolic doctrine in walking the that Way.
One of the most thorough set of instructions for right
Christian behavior in found in Romans 13. Here are the
final verses of that instruction.
11 And do this, knowing the time,
that now it is high time to awake out of sleep;
for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand.
Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness,
and let us put on the armor of light.
13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness,
not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.
14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and make no provision for the flesh, to lust.
Every man and woman must make a willful decision to abide in Light,
or remain corrupted and defiled by darkness.
John 3:
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world,
and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light,
lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen,
that they have been done in God.
All must be that much more vigilant as that Day of the Lord draws near.
Another set of instructions are found in 1 Thessalonians 5. Here are the verses
relevant to the topic.
4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.
8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love,
and as a helmet the hope of salvation.
9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.
11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
Allowing darkness to abide was identified above as deception. Here are Christ's words:
Luke 11:
33 “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket,
but on a lamp stand, that those who come in may see the light.
34 The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good,
your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness.
35 Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness.
36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light,
as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light.”
Matthew 6:
22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good,
your whole body will be full of light.
23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
And how great is that deception!
In Christ is to abide with the saints in light.
Amplified to full magnification of the Truth.
John 1:
4 In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men.
5 The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it
or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].
John 8:12 Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, “I am the Light of the world.
He who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
John 12:
35 Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light,
lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”
These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.
Ephesians 5:
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
9 for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.
