Hey everyone, I've recently discovered a website to do with Christianity.
It references quotes from the bible, and I must say I am finding many of them very hard to understand or interpret. I know that times were different back then, but there are some very unsettling references that I need help understanding.

(I don't want to post the website as people may find it offending and I don't want to get another warning, but PM and i'll link you to it) (It just text, nothing else)

But anyway here are a few references I'm struggling to understand.

No child of an incestuous union may be admitted into the community of the Lord, nor any descendent of his even to the tenth generation. (Deuteronomy 23:3 NAB)

"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their fathers; Lest they rise and posses the earth, and fill the breadth of the world with tyrants. (Isaiah 14:21 NAB)

Doesn't everyone have the chance to worship God?

(I'm not meaning to cause any arguments, I would just like someone to go through these things with me. If someone would want to, we could talk through pms as I really don't want anybody on here to get offended)

First off, that is from the Old Covenant law, this only applies to Jews, as Christians we are not bound by this code.

Second, These quotes saying to kill Gay people and such, detail the maximum possible penalty for the crime. If one examines Jewish history you will find that few if any people where given the maximum penalty.

Thirdly, your last quote is in regards to war, and like the first quote the intent of the law was to preserve a pure Jewish people from evil influences. Sure enough, the Jews who started as a small slave group in ancient Egypt are still here today, and are distinct and recognizable.

Thanks for explaining that to me.

i would kindly suggest that you don't engage yourself with such writings as they can be understood better by souls that are in a long journey within Christianity and have already a relationship with our Lord.
such writings maybe very interesting and intriguing but do they really help you in anything?

why don't you investigate the New Testament where the Light and the Love of our Lord can feel your heart?

take care.

In Gods eyes am I responsible? (I'm refering to the last phrase)

Hi Scott. No, you are NOT! (Really)

To Birthew: it will be very helpful for you to recognize the "layer" of Truth, where such verses speak to each of us, within. which voices, impulses, or natural tendencies, do you need to "kill off" before they have the chance to conceive, bring forth, and multiply? (A question we will all benefit from addressing, even if only privately, between us and G-d Himself)

1. Incestuous? Where did you get that? I see "Ammonite or Moabite".
2. Bibleblevr if the Jewish laws don't pass on to Christians, why didn't you just say that for the gay question also?

There are three aspects of the Jewish Law. The moral Law (the 10 commandments follow under this category.) The Ceremonial law, (religious, ceremonial washing or cleaning, holidays and food restrictions all fall under this part of the law.) Civil law (which governed the way OT Jews conducted their day to day lives, it also contained "penance/punishment" for sins.) Only the Moral law was passed on to Christianity. (as witnessed by the Works of the Holy Spirit through the words and deeds of the Apostles.)

Homosexuality is still a sin, even so we are not bound by the law to stone a homosexual nor a child born from incest, because we are free from that aspect of the Law or judgment.

The sorts of laws you are reading have everything to do with the strict, hierarchical worship model of the Old Testament - certain people couldn't go to the tabernacle/temple at all, others who could go there could only be a certain distance from the center. Gentiles had to be on the outside. Jewish women could advance further in, but not as far in as Jewish men. And then the common men could not advance as far as the priests, and only the High Priest could go into the Most Holy Place, and that could only happen at the proscribed time. There was a curtain which stood at its entrance. But when Jesus died, God ripped the curtain in two, signifying that anyone could come to him now.

Incest is a terrible practice. But it is not the fault of the child, and God receives such people with open arms.
