Child Support Payments?

Not necessarily. In fact I'd even say not usually. Sometimes? Of course. But let's try not to perpetuate the stereotype that most divorces are because the guy up and left or traded in his wife for a "newer model".

You are free to disagree, but the statistics say otherwise, and I personally know of situations in which this occurs or has occurred.

I am please to report that a glimmer of progress has been made. Last night we had a civil, mature discussion on this. She seems to be open to returning to the deposits going back into our joint account and discussing a budget. I sense God is working in her heart on this issue and ask for continued prayers.

there is a financial limit where responsibility ends and the extortion begins, it has been determined by the fed gov that that number is about 300-400$ per parent. So if the award amount is more based on the fact that the man is a high wage earner, it is in fact extortion.

I will take a different approach to this. My stbx would say "you owe me for having married you. I can get XYZ from you and will do so because I'm entitled to a lifestyle. You can leave but it won't be for free". When it gets to this point - where one spouse uses it as a weapon instead of the backstop that it's intended to be - that it becomes extortive.

Truth is truth. If a person begets a child, they are responsible for raising that child. A "real" man or woman is going to step-up to their responsibility for the children they create. This means that if you make a good living, that part of that is set aside for your children. If you make a poor living, part of it is set aside for your children.

So yes, a "real" father/mother WANTS to care for his/her children to THE VERY BEST OF THEIR ABILITY.

Trying to punish a former spouse by failing to provide for the children is selfish.

Truth is truth. If a person begets a child, they are responsible for raising that child. A "real" man or woman is going to step-up to their responsibility for the children they create. This means that if you make a good living, that part of that is set aside for your children. If you make a poor living, part of it is set aside for your children.

So yes, a "real" father/mother WANTS to care for his/her children to THE VERY BEST OF THEIR ABILITY.

Praise the Lord, God is Awesome!

Last night, my wife and I somewhat peaceably (we had to take a 5 minute timeout) came to a compromise on what to do about this situation. Basically, she wanted to know where her support was going, specifically. So, she agreed to pay certain bills from the support. I know how much she receives a month (or is supposed to receive, as her ex isn't always employed) and there is very little room for her to "stockpile" money.

This was a big hurdle to get over for us. Thank you for your advice and prayers! I would rather us be able to combine and agree on a budget, but this is the next best thing and I believe was a win-win situation. She gets to see where the support is going and I get help paying bills.
