Ok, neither me nor the wife know what to do right now

our 6YO girl appears to be stimulating them self in class and at home by rubbing back & forth on chairs while sitting. She is an adopted child, and the bio mother had drug problems. this activity has started withen the last year.

This is a very normal thing for children to do this but if you want them to stop just tell them girls do not do this. Do not be mean about it just keep reminding them about it. It will take awhile.

Take her to the doctor. Maybe she has a medical problem. A doctor can also give you advice.

Hmm. As a child of a drug addicted parent..

I too started doing this at an early age, and I don't think that it was directly related to my parents drug abuse, I just started puberty early (age 8 or 9, whatever 4th grade is) , and got "interested" in my own body earlier (as soon as I could talk, and ask questions, basically). Maybe you should sit her down and tell her that it okay to do this, just not in school, or in front of other people. (Unless you have moral conflict about allowing touching yourself in your home.. then... I dont know WHAT you should say to her) My parents were always open with me about sex and masterabtion, even from a younger age, and I think that them telling me that I was normal really helped, and being told the appropriate places to do was good also.

It could be a sign of a yeast infection, or UTI. I know that some girls will rub this area that is bothering them. Has she complained about any sort of pain or discomfort? It would be a good idea to get it checked out.

Some children also discover their sexuality sooner than others. Talking about it openly with her, expressing your concern, etc. could help her with the problem, if that is what she is dealing with.
