  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My general opinion is that Jack Chick MEANT well, and his heart was in the right place, and the message was there, but like most things of their era, they were quickly dated, and would probably be considered "not relevant" by today's standards.

Some of the early ones are almost comical actually.

Chick tracts are absolutely horrible. In many of them he either shows himself to be willfully completely ignorant or else an out and out liar. As someone who grew up as an atheist and came to faith later in life, many of his tracts were the source of much humor in my circles, they gave me more reason to hate Christians, and they drove me AWAY from the cross. Not because they told me about heaven or threatened me with hell, but because they told complete lies. Many of them addressed situations or groups I was in, and they were utterly false portrayals.

I didn't get saved until good Christian men and women incarnated themselves into my life and lived the true Christian life out in front of me for years, breaking my stereotypes of what Christians were.

I hate, hate, hate Chick tracts and think that in many cases they do far more harm than good.

Personally, some of the Chick tracts can be jaded.

But I can point you to at least one that makes a great witness tool.

In this one tract, no particular religion or denomination is attacked.

It presents a very good message and I use it quite regularly.

Link

Can anybody object to this message?

Has this message changed?

I think not.

God Bless

Till all are one.

nice tract

That it is brother.

It has a very powerful message.

And I can't honestly think of any objections to that one.

God Bless

Till all are one.

I have no problem with that one you linked to, but for me I'm not going to support the ministry of someone like Jack Chick. Like I said the man is either willfully ignorant or an out an out liar and either way he pushes many away from the cross rather than drawing them. None of us are perfect, but until and unless I see a change in him (both his materials and a repentance for his mistakes) I would never support him or his ministry.

Jack Chick's tracts have positive and negative characteristics. Here are my observations.

Positive traits:
  • He warns people about the reality of hell, and the fact that people who practice false religions (including atheism) are going there
  • He opposes the <staff edit> Catholic Church
  • He believes in the authority of Scripture
  • He asks people to recognize their sin and confess Jesus Christ as Lord -- probably the most important point
Negative traits:
  • He believes in the <staff edit> King James Only doctrine
  • He makes false claims about the Catholic Church <staff edit>
  • He does not treat the matters of sin and judgment with the weight that they deserve; as has already been stated, some of the comics are almost...well, comical
So I observe that there are good things about Chick tracts. Then again, the best lies are mostly true. My best judgment is that Jack Chick is a right spirited but ultmately misguided believer who hasn't exercised good judgment when making his materials. I can't think of any cases where I could use a Chick tract in good conscience.

While I don't agree with all of Chick's views (the method he uses to witness to Catholics and KJV only views especially) I do appreciate most of his tracts. Our family hands them out at Halloween. He does great artwork, has intesting stories and typically is right on bibically.

I've read some of them and I wonder where he got all those conspiracy theories from, there's a lot of false information there not based on fact. I'm saying this as someone who looked into the information and did some research.

Yes I agree. If I recall correctly, I think Jack Chick charges the Catholic Church with participating in the holocaust. I would be remiss if I did not humbly express my agreement with him that the Catholic Church (of which I understand you count yourself a member) is apostate from Christ. But no Christian ought to support the propagation of truth by means of false information.

I agree that no Christian ought to use false information for any purpose.
Of course as might be expected I disagree that the Catholic Church is apostate, I am a convert from evangelical Protestantism and I believe God lead me here.

Peace

As a kid I enjoyed them. Not a popular view. But still I liked them. They were part of the reason why I came to Christ. The comic, Somebody Loves Me, had a significant impact.

Great to hear it. As I said before, Chick tracts aren't without a large element of truth. I myself came to faith in Christ because a woman who believes in the prosperity Gospel gave me a Bible. Now I recognize that the prosperity Gospel is blasphemous and utterly abhorrent. But it doesn't change the fact that God sometimes uses strange means to bring us to faith in his Son.
