DS(17 months old) has been driving us nuts with chewing on EVERYTHING in sight. Most of the time also eating things he shouldn't like paper, string, dirt etc. 
Then it hit me. When my dog was a puppy if she didn't have lots of chew toys she's destroy everything she could find.
So I gave DS a clean wash cloth. Now he carries his 'chewy' everywhere and if he goes to chew on something he shouldn't we hand it to him.
They get kind of icky so I'm replacing them 3-4 times a day but this has seriously helped our chewing on everything and eating non-food problem.
Now we just have to remember a 'chewy' when we leave the house or he chews on his clothes.
