  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What is the general take on Chevelle? Some of the Christian stations i listen to pulled them around their latest release, while prior albums were being played. I'm curious again since getting an XM radio and listening to The Torch and they play Chevelle. My guess is that their playlists are based more on a corporate ideas of "Christian Rock" as opposed to a popular belief. No basis for this, but their selection and rotation seems limited and populated by the better known artists.

Just wondering others take.

I haven't heard the new album... haven't been willing to put the money down on an album that will be, by all measures, a guilty pleasure. However, the reason many Christian stations pulled back on them is because there is some language stuff on the new album. Nothing that would bother me... but we can't have parents complaining, can we?

On the new album, be says ba$^!#d on one song, but it is actually, as I remember, used in it's proper context. But that was probably enough to get it pulled from any stations that would have played it. In addition, they've pretty much detatched themselves completely from the Christian scene.

I remember that when they first started they were quite open with their Christianity. But as they have progressed into becoming more and more popular the producers have most likely told them if you want to continue to succeed in the music industry you must keep your faith lay low or to get out and go into the christian music industry which is not to say non-popular but bands don't recieve a big income like mainstream bands. It's unfortunate that they have kept their faith lay low because of money and hopefully one day they will realize they should use their talents for God and not for money.

if indeed that's what they're doing. hard to say in this day and age, but pressure from the label can be a mofo sometimes.

I'm talking about many years ago it seems like when they came out with the CD "Point #1". I recall reading their biography somewhere and it mentioning their faith and I recall seeing about a year ago a list of hard rock bands on a forum and Chevelle was listed under as Christian by several people so I wasn't crazy. But my pyschatrist says other wise :p
