Do you have any idea's for organizing the closets (clothes)?
Ooh, have you asked the right person! I mentioned that my daughter and I are living in what was (YEARS ago) a formal living room. Well, having a nice, big bedroom is great. But no one stopped to think about the fact that a living room doesn't come equipped with a closet. So what do I have? A coat closet. That's right. The teeny-tiny booger can't hold much of anything on that little rod. I've learned to be VERY creative!!
What does yours look like? Is it one of the sliding-doors deals? You said just one rod, so I'm assuming it's not walk-in. First thing I suggest is painting the closet interior bright white. If you use a semigloss paint, you'd be able to clean it very easily. The white in the closet helps for a visual effect...you don't want too many dark corners where things can fall and hide! =)
Do you have a shelf above your closet pole? If not...put a shelf above your closet pole!! And one of my favorite tricks has been to actually lower the pole. It doesn't *have* to be where the architect put it! Your longest garment needs to be about 3 inches off of the floor. And all that extra space is great for putting in more shelving!
I had to do a major closet over-haul when I moved in here. First thing I did was to honestly go through every piece of my clothing. If it didn't fit, I chunk it. If it wasn't really my style, or I knew I wasn't going to wear it many more times, I chunked it. Same for that ratty pair of jeans that I was hanging onto!
I purchased some large plastic containers (at walmart, very cheap) to put my off-season clothes in. Those stack up very neatly at the bottom of the closet! Shoes can be organized on one of the shelves so that they don't take up too much room, and "special" items (scarves, gloves, mittens, even lingerie) can be organized in more boxes on the very top shelf.
Does that help at all?? lol, probably not!
As for your son's room, I think the blue would be a great color, especially since he picked it out himself. I don't want to get too Freud-ish, but that has an amazing psychological effect on a kid his age. If you're still wanting to pretty-fy it after it's been painted such a boy color, you can fix the rules so that you're the one decorating the windows. Just don't throw any lace curtains at the boy! =)
Our fun has been extended a few days...the wrong color is on the wall!! Well, it's the right color, but for some reason, when it goes onto our walls, it ends up being Peach rather than Tan! Oy! So it's going to take a few more days to get it ironed out. Which would be fine, normally, but I'm here with a 19-month-old trying to figure out what on EARTH to do to keep her entertained! Our options for the past two days have been to either hide out in a small, cramped bedroom in the back of the house or to go somewhere. She and I can't take much more time in the car, though! And today they're not coming at all, so I've got to try to find a safe place for her to play in the house. Fun, fun! I'm glad it's getting done, but I'm going to be even more glad when it's DONE!!! =)
