Alright, let's all check in and see what everyone's doing!!

My daughter and I are doing well. The holiday season has come to a close, so that's a bummer for me (I know that for most widows, it's a relief to have it over...everyone's different!!), but I'll be looking forward to the next holiday! =) School is starting back up, and Brea and I will be enjoying our nice, quiet home now that everyone has gone back to their own homes or is back at school or work! =)

How about you? What's going on right now? What's the next big task? Prayer requests or praises??

I love you guys so much! I think we're a neat little group, and I just want to know what's going on in your little corner of the world!

Hi Manna!

So glad the Christmas Season was a great one for you and Brea. My Christmas was a quiet one, with all my kids home. (Usually we travel.) I always enjoy these time of traditions that 'we' have formed over the years.

Kids start school again tomorrow, and things will be routine again. I have a son graduating this spring- so planning on ALOT of relatives and friends then.

Blessings in Him!

Hi Everyone,

I am relieved to get through the holidays - did not put up a tree for the first time in my life.

My #2 (druggie) son is still in jail on possession charges (which is a positive). My #3 son and wife are expecting their first (girl).

I will be teaching some night classes for a few weeks - which stretches me since I still have some stroke issues.

Hello everyone, my son and I had a quite Christmas at home. My daughter had company so I didn't go watch my grandson open his presents. My house is a total wreck, every room is turned upside down as my house is getting painted inside. I've been spending time with my son and my daughter and grandson. School starts tomorrow, so I will be a bit lonely during the day. It'll just give me some quite time to work on the house, sort and throw away things, organize. God bless you all.

Wow...you've got a busy spring coming up, then! Is this your oldest son? My brother is also graduating high school in May. He was ready months ago!!

As I type this, the paint fumes are getting to me...we're painting the interior of our home this week as well. We're hiding some horrible panneling! What color did you go with?

Have fun with the organizing!! That's right up my alley....need any help? =)

Hello Manna, I'll take any idea's you can give. The walls are being painted "desert sand" it's what it looks like anyway. Fresh and bright. I haven't decided about my bedroom walls yet. This decorating the whole house at one time is a little overwhelming for me. But I'm hanging in there. :)

Oy...the entire house at once?? I'm not sure I'm that gutsy! This house hasn't been redecorated since the 70's. One of the bathrooms still has the plastic curtains with brown, orange and yellow circles as the "motif". Oh my word...it really is funny to look at it!

My grandmother passed away two years ago, and we've been slowly redoing parts of the house. Right now the kitchen/living room/hallway areas are being painted. I prefer bold colors on the walls (or at least semi-bold!), but my mother likes the earth tones a little more. So we opted for a color called "Traditional Tan" with a white trim. Our house looks completely different! We were used to decades of this dark panneling, and now there's light in the rooms! My younger brother walked in yesterday and jokingly stumbled back out of the house claiming "those rooms are brighter than the sun!!" Dork. =)

I'm not sure if you like a lot of color or not, but you might want to consider going with a darker color for the bedrooms. It depends on your personality and the size of the rooms, but a deeper color could make a bedroom much more relaxing. My daughter and I are sharing a room that was, years ago, a formal living room. It's pretty spacious, so I was able to do virtually anything I wanted with the color. I ended up with a rich, almost mossy green. It's very soothing and relaxing. But then I threw in white glossy paint for the trims and widow sills to give it a crisp, clean look. Breanna and I have loved it. =)

Good luck! Let us know how it goes, and try not to inhale too many paint fumes! =)

Manna you always make me smile. Do you have any idea's for organizing the closets (clothes)? I guess maybe I could learn how to build something in there. Just one rod isn't working. I will go with a dark color in the bedroom, I can only sleep in a dark room. Mossy green and white trim sounds pretty together. My son wants a blue room, I just painted it white a couple years ago. I'm afraid it might make him more hyper, he needs a calming color. Any idea's there? Thanks for all your help Manna and anyone else who joins in. It'll be greatly appreciated. :)

Hey, only a few of us has checked in here at the check point. Where is everyone?

Ooh, have you asked the right person! I mentioned that my daughter and I are living in what was (YEARS ago) a formal living room. Well, having a nice, big bedroom is great. But no one stopped to think about the fact that a living room doesn't come equipped with a closet. So what do I have? A coat closet. That's right. The teeny-tiny booger can't hold much of anything on that little rod. I've learned to be VERY creative!!

What does yours look like? Is it one of the sliding-doors deals? You said just one rod, so I'm assuming it's not walk-in. First thing I suggest is painting the closet interior bright white. If you use a semigloss paint, you'd be able to clean it very easily. The white in the closet helps for a visual effect...you don't want too many dark corners where things can fall and hide! =)

Do you have a shelf above your closet pole? If not...put a shelf above your closet pole!! And one of my favorite tricks has been to actually lower the pole. It doesn't *have* to be where the architect put it! Your longest garment needs to be about 3 inches off of the floor. And all that extra space is great for putting in more shelving!

I had to do a major closet over-haul when I moved in here. First thing I did was to honestly go through every piece of my clothing. If it didn't fit, I chunk it. If it wasn't really my style, or I knew I wasn't going to wear it many more times, I chunked it. Same for that ratty pair of jeans that I was hanging onto!

I purchased some large plastic containers (at walmart, very cheap) to put my off-season clothes in. Those stack up very neatly at the bottom of the closet! Shoes can be organized on one of the shelves so that they don't take up too much room, and "special" items (scarves, gloves, mittens, even lingerie) can be organized in more boxes on the very top shelf.

Does that help at all?? lol, probably not!

As for your son's room, I think the blue would be a great color, especially since he picked it out himself. I don't want to get too Freud-ish, but that has an amazing psychological effect on a kid his age. If you're still wanting to pretty-fy it after it's been painted such a boy color, you can fix the rules so that you're the one decorating the windows. Just don't throw any lace curtains at the boy! =)

Our fun has been extended a few days...the wrong color is on the wall!! Well, it's the right color, but for some reason, when it goes onto our walls, it ends up being Peach rather than Tan! Oy! So it's going to take a few more days to get it ironed out. Which would be fine, normally, but I'm here with a 19-month-old trying to figure out what on EARTH to do to keep her entertained! Our options for the past two days have been to either hide out in a small, cramped bedroom in the back of the house or to go somewhere. She and I can't take much more time in the car, though! And today they're not coming at all, so I've got to try to find a safe place for her to play in the house. Fun, fun! I'm glad it's getting done, but I'm going to be even more glad when it's DONE!!! =)

I spent my holidays traveling this year. I think it helped to be away from the house.
I went to visit my son and his family in North Carolina and then went to Michigan to
meet my daughter's new in laws. Being around so many others took the sting out of
another Christmas without him. He was like a kid at Christmas....LOL

This was a tough tough Christmas. I put up a tree and tried to celebrate.

I bought a dog 5 month old cocker 2 weeks after Gary died; I knew I would have to house train him and I needed something to make me get up in the morning. I bought him November 11th. Gary died October 31st, 2005. I know it was probably too soon but I also knew it would make me be busy.

Then there was the first Thanksgiving and Gary always made the turkey and dressing. The first anniversary was December 17th; it would have been our 45th. Now February 6th is coming soon and that would have been his 65th birthday.

Christmas just was hard being the first and so close; but I made it with God's help. I am making it through all the first but boy they are all so close together.
