  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Checking Out the Body

How does God feel about the body being check out? The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 6:19-20). Also, if a man lust for a woman in his heart, he has already committed adultry (Matthew 5:28). Is there such a thing as innocently checking out a body, devoid of lust, such as checking out a thong at the beach or a nude model in an art class? Please reference your replies with scripture.

  1. Intense or unrestrained sexual craving.
    1. An overwhelming desire or craving: a lust for power.
    2. Intense eagerness or enthusiasm: a lust for life.
  2. Obsolete. Pleasure; relish.
Having a desire or craving is not lust, when you let it take you over, or become primary over good things, then you are in trouble. Finding another human being attractive is not a sin. Like most things in life, moderation is key, indulgance is the problem.

I was about to ask the same thing. How do Christians define lust versus mere sexual attraction. If there was no sexual desire or attraction, then there would be little incentive to marry. At what point does sexual desire become lust?
You make a valid point. Kudos to you! If I knew the answer, I wouldn't have posted this thread. As this thread progresses, hopefully good insights based on scripture will arise.

I guess the difference would be, do you view the person as less of a person, of more for jsut as an object of sexual attraction, instead of thinking of them as a person, and just acknowledging that they are sexually attractive?

I am a nudist and I am able look at people of both sexes and all ages naked without any lust.

What Jesus was talking about was not about looking at women naked, but having a burning desire to *posess* them and wanting them all to yourself for yourself.

I also find it strange that he did not apply this teaching to women who look at men lustfully as well.

Matthew 5:28 also applies to women viewing men lustfully.

One split second of lust is equal to 100 seconds of lust. In God's sight they are equal. Both are acts of disobedience.

Thats because your concept of god is "the cosmic perfectionist" Even one sin in a lifetime merits an eternity of hell, correct?
