I don't know how many times this question has been asked on here or even if it has already been asked, but i was wondering if anyone had any date ideas that are romantic, fun (maybe a little creative) and a little less expensive. because incase anyone hasn't noticed, even dinner and a movie is getting a little pricey and is kind of the same old same old. please let me know if yall have any sweet ideas. thanks!

personally i love nothing better than finding a quiet park (or beach) to go for a walk with my bf. maybe its not too creative but it can sure be romantic :)

Here's a list (it includes things we have not done):

- Hiking on local trials
- Picnic in the park
- Cooking dinner together and eating it (get a really good, creative cookbook like "How to Cook Everything")
- Making chocolate chip cookies, serve with milk
- Renting a canoe or a sailboat at a local park (our park charges $10.00 an hour for a sailboat, we just bought a canoe so that's free now)
- Volunteering through the local homeless shelter or other good cause
- Game night - board games
- Origami night
- Read short stories to each other out loud
- Sing or play duets
- Karaoke night - print out lyrics from the Net, play CDs and sing loud and crazy
- Puzzle night
- Stargazing picnic. Get a map of the stars and see what you can identify.
- Work through the 1000 questions in "http://www.theromantic.com/questions.htm" (or some similar book)
- Offer to babysit someone's kids together, earn money for the next date and learn about each other in the way you deal with kids
- Learn a language together using livemocha.com

Off the top of my head ....

Picnics are a pretty cool idea.

Catching the first bus that comes by, riding it for 10 minutes, then walking home :)

Beaches at night time. But be sure to be careful! You don't want to go to an area thats dangerous.

Summer time + night time darkness = romantic in itself.

If you have similar athletic abilities (or aren't competitive and can accept the differences), you could try playing tennis, taking a bike ride, going roller skating or ice skating or do whatever other sports you both enjoy or would like to try. You don't have to be experts at it, just go have fun together.

Also, if you have an astronomy club or planetarium in your area, you can check to see if they have stargazing nights. They have those in my area and the club brings their telescopes and anyone can come and look through them.

Going to a karaoke place as mentioned can be great fun, as can the drinks already mentioned. The lighting of the place can have a big effect on romanticism. I think it's great fun to sit around the lake also. Walk around and feed the ducks, that sort of thing. All are cheap or free and romantic while letting you get to know the person better.

of course there's always the stand by, movie night at home. you can rent movies or go onto netflix (if you're in the states) or itunes and download a movie to watch together, pop some popcorn and voila. you've got a romantic night in :)

or if you live by the water see if there are any day cruises available. where my bf lives they're actually rather cheap and can last anywhere from an hour to four hours and may even include dinner depending on the cruise.

I looove nights in. :) <3 Just watching a movie cuddling on the couch, hanging around whoever's house. No big deal. We've made dinner for eachother before too! Yeah, when we're short on money it's always a night in. We like to have McDonalds dates as well.. and eat it at a park. :) OH. Our FAVORITE thing is "The Stars." We just call it the stars. It's a place a little out in the country so the lights aren't as bright and you can see almost every star in the sky. It's so beautiful. The night sky has bbeen an ongoing love with us.

Hope I helped a little! :)

that night sky thing is totally true for me and my bf! before we even started dating, we had our first really good talk under the stars while watching the lunar eclipse earlier this year, and i think that is when i started to really like him more than just a friend, so it's really special. i like the picnic in the park idea. something we have done before is make dinner for my family together; it was a recipe he had never tried so it was fun and he loved it. thanks again, and i hope others are going to look at this and get some cute ideas for their SO.

Speaking of night skies ...

We went moonlight canoing once, by a full moon. It's only a cheap date if you have or can borrow a canoe, and you should do it on water you're familiar with.

Truth in Advertising: We did it with an outfitter, and there was a singles group, everyone trying to impress everyone else, but we figured it would be a lot more fun without the singles group, and went out and bought a canoe. We've now been out there by daylight, if we can only get a full moon when neither of us has their kid ...

My boyfriend and I took a belaying class at the local rock climbing gym. It was a good deal cheaper than dinner + movie, and much more fun (it's amusing to see one's enormous boyfriend nearly trembling in terror). Our second date was canoeing, which gave us a good opportunity to talk and enjoy some pretty scenery. We also played on a playground at a local park, which was the perfect opportunity for childhood story swapping.

Also, I like to hunt up craft festivals, fairs, and corn mazes. Fairs can get a little expensive if you're riding rides and having funnel cake, but craft festivals and corn mazes are pretty cheap. It's definitely the season for these things.

None of these are particularly romantic in the traditional sense, I suppose, but we sure enjoy them.

My husband and I enjoy parks, hiking, biking, swimming, the dollar theater, the drive in theater, etc. We also enjoy a variety of other simple things -- for example, this fall, we will go apple picking, pick out pumpkins and carve them together, etc. There's also bible studies, church and church events, cooking together, etc.
