CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

insomnia is going to be my ruin... at this point its hopeless to get any sleep before classes start today, i mean it isnt till 1, so i suppose i could sleep till noon, but its 8:30 so whats the point. grrrr

I'm afraid I left yesterday before the ensuing discussion over whether taboos on drinking and dancing are a "southern thing", a "baptist thing" or a "Christian thing". My personal opinion is that these things are not necessarily bad or sinful themselves but can be twisted to a bad end if pursued to excess.

Stephen, I think its Kenneth Gentry who has wrote a recent book defending alcohol consumption by Christians with the exception of getting drunk. Ive been meaning to pick it.

I think that drinking a beer, or wine is fine, but not getting drunk.
If you are going to talk about certain thing being bad for you, then we should all stop eating junk food, consuming caffeine and so on.
Although, alcohol is obviously worse than fast food, but what about smoking?

Doctors say that drinking one glass of red wine a day is really good for us. I don't see a problem with this kind of moderation. However if alcohol is being used as a way of escaping problems, or is consumed to the point of addiction it can be a destructive habit.
I don't have any problem with dancing (fully clothed of course).

well you would be indoors in unnatural lighting... for prolonged periods of time that is not healthy- no exercize or natural sunlight.... and staring at a computer screen isnt great for the eyes, as well as your posture is probably not excellent, hehe so yeah, this in excess is bad too.... and i know i am guilty!

hehe no, i do! i think i was just trying to say that most everything in excess can be bad for you. if you take it to the extreme of course. haha. like on a christian forum.... are people still getting time with God and reading his Word? or is this site taking the place of that time? I know I struggle with that sometimes because the interaction with people is more visible than interaction with God at times. But I suppose that its not totally neglecting spiritual needs heh. one of those catch 22s i suppose hehe

yeah, one of the funny things about the internet is the way people brag that they can carry on conversations with folks half way around the world. then those same people don't even know their next-door neighbors!

hehe i know lots of my neighbors..... there is trey who lives across the hall and down one, there are three girls that i met at church that have the balcony across from mine, hehe.
