Charting

Hi, I have a Charting question. When is the best time to take your temperature? For example, last night I went to bed, and slept straight through until 4:45. My alarm usually goes off at 5:30.

I took my temp at 4:45 and 5:30, and got different results.

According to "Taking Charge of your Fertility" you should take it at the same time every day, after at least 3 hours of sleep... But from 4:45-5:30 was not even an hour!

Ah, what to do!

You have to take it before getting out of bed or moving much, even to go pee. Its preferable if you can take it at the same time each morning but if you wake and have to get out of bed to potty or will be shifting around a lot because you can't get back to sleep then just take the temperature then and it will be a little off but less off than the temperature after you've gotten out of bed.

If you wake up at different times, why not set the alarm for 4:45 and just wake up and temp? That way you can always go back to bed until 5:30 and sleep more, but get a more accurate reading. I read once that it's more important to take your temp at the same time every day than to get 3 hours of sleep beforehand.

As for the periods, mine were a little strange when I first got off birth control, but regulated again within three months. :) HTH!

I often ovulate as late as day 28 (or later) and this is my third pregnancy. The pill made your cycle 28 days long, but your natural cycle could be much longer - so it certainly doesn't mean you can't conceive!

And your temp dilemma is one of the major reasons I never temped.
