This was good. I posted it on my Facebook last night. I can totally relate to the conversion experience. I came from a Pentecostal background in which Arminianism is rampant. When I finally learned of the doctrines of grace as set out in the systematic theology presented by Calvinists I was heart-broken. I understood my inability to do anything good and was shown a glimpse of how evil my nature truly was, and it was that which finally brought me to my knees (figuratively, because I was actually on my face) in tears crying out for God to save me. I remember lying on my bed saying a prayer over and over again which I remembered from a movie I watched called "Luther," saying, "I am yours, save me." The peace that came over me in the knowledge that I was then in him was unimaginable. I have not strayed from these doctrines, since they are my only hope for salvation.

Still I pray for grace in remembrance that it is by grace I was saved, through the simple faith that God gave me to believe that he would save me from myself.

I digress. Great movie, though!

I just finished watching it and enjoyed it. I did have a couple of things that I found disappointing. I don't think that they captured Spurgeon at all. As a factual recital of his life it did a fine job but there was nothing of what drove his life in the movie. They kind of made him to be another Billy Graham. They certainly didn't capture the passion in his preaching or the urgency he felt. Like most movies about historical figures much was missed that made him the man he was.
