• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I never hear much from people of that board coming here or whatever. It's mostly like Orthodox or PRE. Does Charasmatic Movement even ahve an abbreviation? Anway, I hear of PRE and TAW, but forgot about CM (i made this up lol) becuz it's never mentioned.
They are charismatic Catholics too and there are some on this board.

The Charismatic Movement is not a denomination or a theology. It is the gifts of the Holy Spirit at work in a Christian, being used to build up Christ’s Church.

Where the problem comes in is that non-Catholic charismatics who use the gifts of the Spirit are with out benefit of the fullness of truth so they can make mistakes and be mistaken.

Catholic charismatics also can be in error if they are not careful.

Here is my take on the whole charismatic issue. Fire analogy. When in your fireplace, it is a good thing but when you take it outside your fireplace and put n the middle of your living room, it will burn your house down. Same thing with the “Charismatic Movement.” With out the truth as a guide it can be very destructive. Look at Benny Hinn.

Have you heard of St. Pardre Pio? He was charismatic.
Oh gosh . . if I can recommend to you that you learn as much as possible about this man of God!

There is a book out there authored by a Protestant minister who began studying Padre Pio's life in order to disprove the miraculous things that happened . . in his research he came face to face with the reality of God in the Catholic faith and in this one man who was an amazing witness to God's power and love . . he ended up converting because of this man . . I don't remember the name of that particular book, but it might be a tool to reach your mom . . there are things in there that are too astonishing to ignore . . :)

The book is Padre Pio: The True Story

There is a big charismatic movement in my diocese. You do not hear much about them, because they use the gifts to build up the Church rather than to build themselves up. When this happens you tend to not hear much about them, because they are not out to glorify themselves. The charismatic Catholics in my diocese tend to meet once a week to do some charismatic prayer. I have been to a couple of their meetings. They sing, speak in tongues, they spontaneously praise God, and sometimes they prophesy. They pray over people. However, if there is a person that needs healing, they pray over that person, and then they recommend to that person that they call a Priest to receive the annointing of the sick. At my former parish, they have a charismatic Mass once a year, where the priest allows the people to pray in tongues and praise God spontaneously, however it is done in the order of the Mass.

I love the fire analogy! I've seen that same fire burn down faith lives of many teens and create saints in others. Awesome. So can I use that if I give you props??

By all mean but don't give me props, I took it from a speaker on the dangers of sex outside marriage. It works real good in that situation too.

IIRC, St. Pio is the only person to have received all the chrisms or gifts of the Holy Spirit.
