Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I saw this on another forum, and I'd like to make better characters.

This thread is going to be dedicated to truly wonderful characters that have been used here at RPGC
*stratch* CFRPG.
This is to be a place where remarkable characters can be showcased, thusly providing good examples to new or novice players as to what good characters can be, and even exposing some more veteran to some other characters they may not ever have notice.
And a good example for Megachihuahua

Before people go crazy and start posting, I want it known that I am placing forth some VERY strict rules.
Like anyone will actually post :D
1--One CANNOT nominate their own characters. This thread is NOT to degenerate in to a "Rate my character!" thread. Also, I know many of you have alternate user names. While I may not check each and every post for this, don't do it guys. That's the same, if not worse, than nominating yourself under your regular user name.
Yeah, Bus, or should I say, BUSKANAKA!
2--ABSOLUTELY NO SPAMMING. If you don't have anything nice, positive, or worthwhile to say, don't post.
Nay, spam all you want ;)

3--Please do not nominate more than two characters per post.
Don't.
4--Include either a link to a post that you thought was exceptional involving the character, or an excerpt thereof. Also, please include why you think that character was worth mentioning--it can be anything from the character had a unique personality, broke away from popular stereotypes, had a lot of background info that was applicable to the story, et cetera and such not. Just make sure you can say something about why the character stuck in your mind.
And put it in terms an idiot, or a chihuahua, can understand.
5--I expect not to see any double nominations. If a character has already been nominated, please don't post the same thing again--in your post, reference the other character and add your thoughts. This does not apply as the 'no more than two nominations per post' rule.
And a couple more, blah blah blah

I nominate O'reean from the Time of Trial thread, played by Blessed-one. (I don't know how to link to specific posts, though, and his profile says diddley-squat about him.) He's kind of an... unusual baddie, to say the least. Sure, he's a die-hard Zantukite believer, and a high-ranking one at that, but he has a personality that doesn't seem to fit in with his villainous role-- he's too... friendly, almost.

I nominated him because he's a very intriguing mystery and I always have fun reading posts with him in them. :)

Blessed-one said:
"I can see why the Church never would've told anybody if that were true," Mikel commented dryly. "I suppose I'll have to judge for myself, but I'd need to hear more."

Mikel and Elaisse listened without interrupting. Sometimes O’reean could be so much into his storytelling, though it in no way was a story to him, that he ended up turning his audience off. He had tried to be rid of this habit, making strenuous attempt not to do it especially in a recruitment mission, so he was elated with Mikel’s response, even if it was a sceptical one. He plunged on into the history of Zantuk and Shardalon, leading up to the persistent to free the goddess from a prison she was unjustly put into.

Mikel’s interest was enough to brighten O’reean’s day. He noticed Elaisse had not said much. The younger elf’s reaction puzzled him. If Elaisse followed El, the normal reaction was one of an outcry to denounce O’reean, an occasion he had come across many times whenever an elf happened to be his audience. Was that a bored expression he detected on this young elf’s face? Then another thought struck him. Elaisse might have heard of the gods before, but why was he keeping quiet?

"Huh? What people?"

The human was eyeing him expectantly, so O’reean abandoned his train of thought, thinking he could ask Elaisse later on.

“This happened before the Time of Disorder. The people saved through Shardalon’s mercy were the ancestors of the five nations. So they could be Vareisian, Eyrellian.. anybody on Ithriya. One of these ancestors might even be your great great great grandfather, many generations ago.” O’reean said with a dramatic note at the end.

EDIT: I'm such an idiot sometimes! :p Quoting the post... thanks, Bus. :D And yay for Phaedros being nominated!

Yeah, Bus, or should I say, BUSKANAKA!
I was framed I tell you!

anyway, I nominate Phaedros Dahlmarrin from 'Portals of Destruction', played by Lady_Firehawk, because I think he is a very real character, for example he has an extreme dislike of a certain race, and his normally quiet, friendly personality changes when around members of that race. It's almost like a red mist fills his brain because he can become very stubborn and resistant to logic that he would normally accept. I just think he is a very interesting character to RP with
smile.gif

here's a post with him in it:
Lady_Firehawk said:
"Though your anger is misdirected, I know what you mean," replied Tsaien. "Still... all this bandying about of pretty words will get us precisely nowhere."

"Then take your own advice and shut up for the love of everything speckled," growled Phaedros.

"If you would permit me, I would come with you... if Phaedros is willing to chill out."

"If I had my choice I'd toss you out on your pointy ear right here and now!" He folded his arms and glowered at Tsaien. What kind of idiot was she?

"I'm not asking you to stop hating me or the rest of the sk'kirrim; merely put it aside in the name of getting something accomplished."

"You keep contradicting yourself and it's starting to really make me angry. Cut it out with the sk'kirrim doubletalk and maybe I'll consider tolerating your unpleasant company!" The half-Elf spat on the ground between himself and the sk'kirrim mercenary as he glared hatefully at her. "You're all the same... lies, arrogance and self-righteousness..."

And It returns from the mire of fallen threads, the former leader gone it is left to be revived by a lone adventurer into ye olden pages of CF.

This was used by some of the older RPG'ers and I am bringing it back.
Hopefully it will have better luck the second round...

((I vote we reinstate the don't nominate your own character rule))

I, Pressing_On, hereby nominate the noble villain, Kael, from the never-dying thread The Secret of Rhian.

Kael's original master, ShaddaiVirus, the only person who has ever been able to play him properly (no offense Vulgivigus hagiographus), created a history of the character that essentially created THE plot of the RPG The Secret of Rhian.

Kael adds not only his history to the thread but also a new dimension that gives the story depth. There is the extreme good-Rhian/Bronwen and the extreme bad-Faolan, the wild-card-Kain (who, well no one knows what he is yet, he might just end up in here eventually as well) and Kael, our noble villain, struggling between good and evil, right and wrong and the essentials of life itself.

Aw, reading those posts by Shaddai_Virus makes me feel awful for how much I’ve messed up his character. Still, I say it’s unfair for him to drop such a complex person in my lap and expect me to do something good with him.

I know it’s an old dead game, but I would like to nominate T'Laloc, played by Malakar, from Battles of a Young Warrior Girl. Not only did he change the game from pure action to silly comedy, but he brought awareness to how creatures like dragons are unjustly slain for no reason other than the fact that they are big and scary looking. And in the words of Malakar, “Just because you eat a good innocent person, doesn't mean you have to like it.”

So, now for some examples from this awesome character:

http://www.christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=2728983&postcount=23 (He has a really good point!)

http://www.christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=8045937&postcount=74 (I love these random comments!)

http://www.christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=8078676&postcount=101 (Haha! The mental image this post creates never fails to crack me up!)

The truth of the matter is I’m just a sucker for silly characters. :p

I nominate Shadowseldil's honor-bound villain,
Daethalion in my RPG "Evermore" he is strange in that fact that this "villain" has an infinitely stronger moral code that the main hero and though he has been in the RPG a quarter of the time as any one else, he has already developed into one of the most fascinating characters in the entire story.

A deadly swordsman, a ferocious warrior, a fiercly loyal patriot to his race, a gentleman of the first order,
an explosive character with Captain Hook Syndrome and a blood-obsession.

The Elf of Dis: Daethalion!!!!
(sorry to many game shows :D)

Well I can't improve on him and so here is his first post to speak for itself

(((As stands my custom, I will reveal my bio once I have revealed his name in the thread. also, this introduction will do a bit of god-modding of Vlasdimir. If needed, it can be changed.)))

The night after the message from Atlantis had arrived at Manor Montagrief, a black shadow also fell upon its estate. A man stood fast in the moonlight, looking himself like a moon god. The light danced on his pale skin before trickling down his long black queue. His black cape fluttered in the breeze, and the golden inlay sparkled like the stars. He smiled grimly.
"You need more caution, fool," said a nearby fir tree. "The guards may likely see you."
"Humans are daft and blind, Vlasdimir," the first responded. "To them, I am no more than a beam of moonlight."
The man walked toward the tree, and seemingly from nowhere Vlasdimir stepped into its shadow. The first smiled. "I am glad to see you are well, my friend and my brother. Are you well? "
"Well enough," was the reply.
"And this Exeter? How is he?"
"Reasonable, mostly."
"So, I am to..." He paused knowingly.
"I am bound to him by sacred laws. I cannot speak nor plan his downfall."
"Ah, but I am not bound. I can--"
"No, do not speak of these things at this time. There are other matters."
"Of course, of course. I and my men at your service. We are nearly twenty strong. Sadly, we are being challenged by the ice giants and I must protect the women and children. Still, twenty of us are more than a legion of men."
"It is enough. I will signal for you when you are needed. Keep out of sight until then."
"To hear is to obey, my friend, my ally."
With that, Vlasdimir stepped back and vanished. The man drew his sword: a thin epee, and pressed its point firmly against his index finger. When he removed the blade, a small point of dark crimson appeared on his finger. He rubbed it with his thumb, and thus satisfied, returned his sword to its small ring-sheath and made his way to his people.
As he was returning through the allies of the city, he noticed a man beating a young elven girl. Fury whelmed inside his marrow. He drew his sword and calmly walked toward the man. The human had risen his hand to smite the woman again. "Release her," said a voice said behind him. The human turned and saw a pale man with a thin sword in his hand.
"I'll do what I want, pal," said the human, obviously intoxicated.
"No, you shall not," said the pale figure.
Angry, the man drew a broadsword and charged at the figure. With a move that almost looked a dance, the figure parried the large, clumsy blow of the man and made his reposte into the man's right underarm. Instantly the blade dropped and the arm went limp. With a shriek of terror, the man turned and fled.
Before giving chase, the pale figure knelt next to the elven girl. "Are you well enough to move on your own?"
"Yes," she replied, still tearful, "I think so."
"Good. I shall deal with your assailant."
The drunken man stumbled through the streets and to his home. As he opened the door, he saw the pale figure running toward him, sword in hand. The drunk shrieked, and flung himself inside, forcing the door shut with his weight. He leaned against its sturdy frame and sighed relievedly. The next moment, he found a metal point sticking through his right shoulder. When it removed, he fell forward into the room.
The door swung open to reveal the pale man on the other side. The drunken man shrank away across the room. The pale man progressed.
"Help," the drunken man said weakly, then cried "Help me!"
"And who was to help the elven girl?" the pale man retorted. He thrust the sword into the left underarm.
A woman came out of the bedroom. She saw the pale figure, shining in the moonlight, and moreover, she saw her husband with a metal blade in his shoulder. "Shelton!" she cried, "Please, sir, let him go!"
"What is it to you, woman?" the pale man said. "He should have thought of the consequences."
The epee withdrew and pierced into the man's left leg. The woman cried out. "How does it feel to be powerless?" the man said calmly. The epee rose and fell again, in the same leg. "How does it feel to feel what the elven girl felt when you beat her?"
"Daddy?" came the thin voice from behind the pale man. "Daddy!"
The pale man turned and looked. It was a young girl, no more than ten. "Elisibeth!" the wife cried out, running to her daughter.
"Please, stop hurting my daddy," the girl pleaded, tears beginning to streak down her cheeks.
The epee jerked from the man's leg. The pale man turned to face the girl. "Come here, Elisibeth."
"No!" Shelton cried. "Leave my daughter alone."
"Come here, Elisibeth," the man repeated his order.
Shyly and frightfully, Elisibeth shuffled toward the man. She was in arms lenght of him before anything else happened.
The pale man took a step over to the girl. Kneeling beside her, he cupped her chin in his hand. she shivered at his touch. "Look at me, child."
The man raised her chins and the girl raised her eyes. Their gazes met. "Child, for your sake only, I will spare your father's life. Take heed. Do not grow to be like him. Learn to love all races like your own. Do you understand?"
"Yes, sir, I think so."
"Now, foolish man. I have stayed your execution for your daughter's sake, but be warned. If she dies or falls out of your favor, and I learn of it, you death will come, but quickly for her sake. If she grows and turns out to be like you, hateful of other races, and I learn of it, your death will be far worse than if I had killed you tonight, and you will beg for death. I will not be as merciful as to kill you then."
The pale figure stood and walked toward the door. He paused in the doorway, glanced over his shoulder, and said, "Goodnight, Elisibeth."
He stepped into the street, and Elisibeth ran to look out the door, but she saw nothing but moonlight.
The pale man was gone.

Well, to keep things from getting over complicated later on,
for my first post on the third Page I will create a post that will provide a list of all characters nominated with at least one of their links (If at all possible)
Unless some one else would rather do it?

Okay, I know I already nominated someone, but I’m going for it again. :p Since this thread is to show good examples of what RPG characters should be, I want to nominate Artemi, played by Flames, from Age of Mortals, Time of Dragons. She was a character who was fighting for good in a world that was totally consumed by darkness. You can almost feel the pain of the character when her god whom she has been so loyal to leaves her. But what I appreciate about this character even more than her person is how Flames plays her. Most games the characters meet for the first time, have absolutely no connections to each other, but somehow end up saving the world together. Flames made some good connections with the characters and was able to take any random thing that was thrown into the story and incorporate it beautifully. He didn’t start the game with, “Okay, here’s the plot,” but rather gave us a dramatic scene and situation and everything evolved from there. No matter what writing level the other members of the game were on, he always seemed to be able to work well with them. It was his ability to be extremely flexible while keeping an eloquent and cohesive story that really impressed me. He was definitely one of my favorite people to write, and I’m sorry that I didn’t have the honor of writing any more games with him other than this one before he stopped playing.

Anyway, on with the awesome excerpts!

http://www.christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=8217287&postcount=1 (The opening post. What a dramatic and awesome scene! And it gives us so much potential to form nearly any sort of adventure from it!

http://www.christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=8237287&postcount=21 (Read this post and the next. This is a great example of how Flames was able to incorporate his character with others.)

http://www.christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=8247778&postcount=42 (I (Lecarsc) had made up this history about how I was this dragon creature Artemi had raised, and she took to it beautifully. She’s so tender and sweet with the creature. The whole page is great on Flames’s part.)

http://www.christianforums.com/showpost.php?p=8226251&postcount=5 (This is from the OOC thread of the game, but it really shows Flames’s willingness to go with whatever is thrown in the game.)

So anyway, I hope that some of you actually read all this rambling I’ve been doing. I think a lot of what are games are lacking now Flames did very well. After rereading this game, I’m reminded of what a really good RPGer is, and I’m going to see if I can’t improve myself accordingly. I think I’ve been getting a little rusty lately. :sorry: Arrgh, I wish this game hadn’t have died! I wanna know what happens!

I don't know if I like that idea so much, because then people don't get the whole reason for why that person was nominated, and who nominated them, etc. If people are too lazy to read through the whole thing, then they just don't have enough RPG spirit. :p
