Fair enough. Thanks for the suggestion. Although I think I've done that, I'm sure that there's always room for growth.

Now, can you tell me whether you believe the original post provides a helpful example of "giving everyone else the same courtesy?" Should the principles for which you advocate be applied equally to all, or should they be applied only to one group and not another?

Could be. I am sure that my performance-based roots are still with me and still rear its head from time to time. If I've picked up performance-based ideology, each of us could likely identify the source.

Perhaps better words to describe this thread might be "loaded," "divisive," or "prejudicial." Feel free to suggest any other alternatives that spring to mind.

How can ideas be shared and exchanged if an entire group of people is precluded from posting? I am advocating for the continuation of the sharing and exchanging of ideas.

So far I have not heard any good arguments for the keeping of the "former Adventists" in our forum name. A lot of attacks such as those above but no real reason to keep that part of the name.

Moderators: It has been several weeks is there anything being accomplished with the name change.

no one has suggested a group of people cannot post.... just what the name of the sub-forum should be...... the reality seems to be that progressive sda thought has a different emphasis than former sda thought...

I completely support the establishment of a subforum underneath the main progressive/moderate/former forum that is devoted to discussion among progressive SDAs. However, I note that this is not the proposal set forth in the original post. The original post does indeed suggest that a group of people should not post here. You'll note that even RC's most recent comments relate to changing the name of the main forum, and not solely the name of a subforum. Admittely, I have not seen you advocate for that course of action. However, I do wonder why, if we are all advocating for the open sharing and exchanging of ideas, there would be any discussion of limiting the dialogue as suggested in the original post?

Is it your goal to have this forum set up the same as how the traditionals have theirs done? They have turned theirs for themselves only and no one else can post on their site if you are not a traditionalist. What do you hope to gain by this? I have never come on here and badgered or harrassed anyone. I come here to learn and yet you would want to have me banned from this site for being a former. Which is more important to come together in Christ or what denomination one belongs to? Granted there are those who are very vocal in their beliefs but don't we all? No I don't go along with name calling or slamming of another person. There will always be people out there causing trouble but if you choose not to raise to the bait and not reply to their stupidity they will eventually go away but if you choose to respond then you are just as much at fault for keeping it going but is it fair to ban all of us who do not do this?
I would like to know what is your true feelings about those who have left the church?

The opening post set forth the idea that we change the purpose of the forum, it said nothing about banning people. As the discussion progressed it was stated that the name of the forum should be changed. It will not prevent people from posting here. It will prevent former's from thinking this is their forum and they can do whatever they please. Which is why the name change is the best thing we can do.

my concern is how RC you are not allowing room for those who are not traditionals and not progressives. You insist on making this the Progressive forum and excluding Evangelicals and Moderates. I think this is a personal issue. I think you are trying to make this fourm a reflection of yourself. Progressive does not fit me. Progressive is very broad in one respect and very Narrow in another. I think this fourms in activity is do in part because of the lack inclusion and the minipulation by some in this forum.

RC I think there are 2 other issues we must address What is your vision for the forum? where do you want to take this. you seem to be the most vocal with the need to be "progressive" so why do you explain where we are headed and why we should go there?

RC I also think that you personally need to make a declaration of your beliefs. You seem to want to make this forum into an extention of your personality and personal beliefs. I have doubhts about weather you are an sda or weather you accept the bible as your "rule" of practice and faith

You will do what you have to do but as I see it that those who have one foot in the church and the other foot on the way out and are seeking answers will feel they will have no place to go to seek the answers they are looking for. Maybe instead of using the word former in the heading how about saying 'bible answers' if it can be used or something to that effect? I am afraid that if you have 'Progressive/Moderate' only it may come off as exclusive to you only and others are not welcome. I understand where you are coming from but do you think the name change will stop what has been going on and keep those people out? I doubt it!
I am not always on but when I am and I see those kind of attitudes I will certainly call them on it as I do not like that kind of behavior and it is certainly not christian.
RC, I have certainly enjoyed our dialogue over this matter in christian love. If I am dialoguing with someone and get crazy please let me know gently and I will correct it immediately.

OK. I have no way of knowing to what you refer. However, I do know my own heart, and I know that--as merely one example of a former SDA--I do not believe I have all of the answers and I continue to discover things that I had previously misunderstood. I have every reason to believe that--through the grace of God and the ministry of the Spirit--this will continue.

When Night was around I think he claimed to be an Evangelical Adventist.
