I find it funny how many times a society can "evolve" to such a point where morality is so relative that we say "to each, his own" without any thought as to the consequences. I also find it funny how blind we can often be to the things that do actually go on all around us.
Being a Christian and someone who represents God, I do not agree with the idea of the current homosexual agenda... it's not that it is about changing one's legal status in the country, or what the secular world does, because I know that as a Christian, quite often my views will not be very popular with the surrounding society (especially one that is opposed to God, as ours is becoming...).
To say that the homosexual interest group does not affect the church or press their views on Christians, though, is both naive and false. I can cite several examples to this. For instance, there was a boy who sued his Catholic school because he could not bring his boyfriend to prom. Also, in British Columbia, it was declared as of last May I believe that it is illegal for anyone to hold a liscence to marry unless they are willing and agree with doing homosexual marriages. The Anglican church has excommunicated priests who have trouble with this, and they are completely divided on the issue. Again, the Toronto Star newspaper considers Christians who do not agree with the idea as "backwards, religious fundamentalists"... I find it funny how those who are the most activistic and vocal for "tolerance" are the least tolerant people around.
If we want to discuss equal rights, then why is it that the two groups who are usually silenced or shoved into the corner are the Christians and the Jews (and to an increasing degree as well, the Muslims)? Why is it that children are not allowed to pray to God in school? Why is it that during "multicultural days", nobody is allowed to say anything about Christ? Why is it that Christmas and Easter are kept strictly to Santa and a rabbit, yet pagan rituals and Buddhist mantras are taught openly, and embraced by the school system as regular practice? Why is Evolution taught as the truth, even though it has a lot of holes in the argument, and no debate is allowed? Why is it that the sex education in our school system advocates sexual promiscuity and targets pregnancy as the major problem, when STD's and emotional scarring is considerably worse? Why are college students silenced when they try advocating abstinance? I could go on here, but I think I am making my point. The debate about equality is never truly about equality anymore. It's about supremecy and doing whatever we want, whenever we want, with whomever we want to do it, and not having anyone standing in the wings telling us not to do it...
For instance, if I was a kleptomaniac and was a burglar by trade, should I fight and lobby for equal rights for burglars and kleptomaniacs? After all, it's not my fault that I steal everything, is it? I was made that way. So why is it that I keep getting sent to prison and have all of my treasures taken from me? I should have equal rights to everyone else. It's treasonous and INTOLERANT of anyone to tell me that stealing, according to God, is wrong! They should be silenced, and there should be laws stating that I should not be discriminated against, just because of my condition that I was born with, which is totally natural. I should be allowed to keep what I take because possession is 9/10 of the law, in my books. After all, are we not a liberated nation here in Canada, all grown up and evolved from the rigid morals of our past?
Specifically regarding the Homosexual marriage issue, I am not going to use the "dried up gene pool" argument, as I do agree that it doesn't hold up much ground. But I will look to countries such as Denmark, Norway and Sweden... countries that have led the way in "liberating" the "equal" rights in marriage. Since 1989, when Denmark approved this act of legislation, 69% of children were born out of wedlock, and are being raised by single mothers. After 1993, when Norway legalized it, their out-of-wedlock births raised from 39-50%, and Sweden's went from 47% to 55%. (these stats taken from New Man magazine, September/October 2004 edition, page 22)... Marriage is cheapened when the idea of marriage is further separated from reproduction...
But then, of course, we also have the pro-death advocates who can probably keep that birthrate low, right? Hardly!
Well, if the government wants to push for this bill, I guess let them. I have no power or authority to stand against it. But there will be significant consequences down the road. Watch and learn. Oh Canada, who yet stands on guard for thee?
By what I say, it is not that I hate those who are homosexual in orientation. I disagree with the practice of homosexuality because that is how I believe God feels about it, but I truly love all of God's people... It's taken me a lot of heartache to come to that, but it's the truth. We have all fallen, in some sense of the word, from the way things were meant to be. Our whole society is going straight into the grave... but I choose to be a voice that is calling the people to look up and to turn back to God... a voice crying in the wilderness, "Make straight the path of the LORD!"
