What is the truth of God that was changed into a lie?

The truth is that God is God and man is not...man is created in the image of God. The lie is that man can be God...thereby making God in the image of man. It is man's chief form of idolatry.

The lie is: an image can represent God in worship

It can either represent God, or be used to replace God. And, in some cases idolatry occurred with objects that were placed by God's commandment. Consider the case of Hezekiah removing the bronze serpent Moses was commanded to erect (Numbers 21:8-9):

Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea the son of Elah, king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign. 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. 4 He removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it, and called it Nehushtan. 5 He trusted in the Lord God of Israel, so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor who were before him. 6 For he held fast to the Lord; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses.​

Here's where an object erected by divine decree reached an expiration date when it became an idol. This is an interesting study in the expiration of God's commandment to Moses.

Romans 1:22-23 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.



Another consideration is...as man was created in His image...then the "lie," or part of the lie, could be the teaching of evolution.

The "wise" professors teach evolution as a truth. Is the "image of God" a creeping thing or beast the image in which we were created?

What is the truth of God that was changed into a lie?

Hi cribstyl,

One that comes to mind to me is evolution and old earth theory. God seems to have been pretty clear that He created everything in this physical realm in which we live in 6 days. Each consisting of an evening and a morning and repeated it a couple of times throughout the Scriptures and gave us age measurements by which we could discern the approximate age of all that He created.

The world in general says that that truth is a lie.

The essential truth of God is that He IS, and that blessed Eternal life is to be found only in Him.

The primary lie is that God is not God.

The lie which follows is there are many ways to some form of Eternal life, or that there is no Eternal life at all. This takes many forms in history (and no doubt in the future).

Once mankind has discarded God as God, mankind can make up their own rules, lifestyle, values and so forth. This may take the form of idols, self-worship (which may involve exercise and eating right as a 'sacrament'), pleasure or self-denial, greed and all sorts of conduct that - presumably - makes one 'fulfilled'.

Second Timothy 3:5 warns "They will maintain the outward appearance of religion but will have repudiated its power."
