Change Names of Lutheran Sub subs

What shall we do about our Special Subforums?

  • I like them the way they are; don't change a thing

  • Change them to reflect the confessional subscription of Quia and Quatenus

  • Change the names, but not as #2 suggests, I'll explain below

  • Change is necessary, but I don't know what we should change them too.

I have been to three LCMS and three LCC congregations.

Two of the LCMS congregations I have visited were mid-to-low church, They both have most of the trappings to be high church. But, how should I put it...? They both would fail the criteria test for www.lutheranliturgy..org on all three counts. One was mostly-open Communion (checklist in bulletin), the other had the proverbal "happy-hour at jake's bar and grill" attitude to sharing the Body and Blood of our Savior. These congregations were from Camas and Vancouver, Washington.

The third, I think could almost be listed on the Lutheran Liturgy web site. High Church indeed. The pastor only invited me to Communion after a brief solemn discussion about the nature of the Sacrament. If my work did not "require" me to stay near Portland, Oregon (I cannot imagine why, I'm in Denmark almost as often as I am at home), I could possibly consider moving all the way across the country, to Rome, New York!

All of the LCC congregations would probably all be High Church. At one of the congregations, one of the sermons, was mostly about a subject I kinda thought probably belonged in the announcements, but he did slip a strong law-gospel segue in. The other sermons I heard from this pastor were nothing less than exceptional. Of the other two congregations, one even used glass (non-disposable) individual cups, only as an alternative for those who let the common cup pass by. All of the pastors for these congregations respetfully requested that I refrain from Communion while still being officially associated with the ELCA. They were also three of the most warm and caring pastors (as well as flocks) I have ever met.

Zion Lutheran Church, 144 - 7th Street, Morden, MB R6M 1E2, 204-822-4838

I have seen (and at one time, participated in) everything from High-Church in appearance to rock-band-in-front-of-the-Altar, hands-in-the-air, dancing-in-the-aisles schwarming in the ELCA.

I don't see why we couldn't change the names. I'm fine with a change. :)

Honestly though, I've never heard of "Quia" and "Quatenus." Maybe we could change the names to something that is very familar with everyone? Just a suggestion. I don't know what we could change it to, but maybe those of the ELCA could do some reaserch on a good name for themselves, and same with the LCMS people. Just a thought. :)
