Born Imperishable
Broken, sick, and hurting - in which sense? Over their sins, or something else? Jesus died and rose again to save us from our sins. We have the promise of a perfect new life in Heaven, and we might get tidbits of that here on Earth - the occasional dead person is raised, the occasional sick person is healed, things like that. But Jesus didn't promise us complete and total healing in the Earthly sense. He did say that the church would face trouble, that people would be rejected by their families, friends and communities. That false things would be said about them, that they would suffer violence and physical death. But all that is worth it to be justified - that is, legally having our sin records wiped clean before God. And the life a Christian is to therefore live is in service to God. Most of us are still going to bear some physical and psychological scars, even the most faithful of us. How long we bear these burdens is up to God and no one else.I know that when people come to the foot of the cross, it's usually because they know they are broken. They realize that they are sick, and hurting.
But when does that change? I'm asking this because I see so many Christians still hurting and confused, and they still remain sick and broken.
Why doesn't it seem that their new faith has made them whole? They say they are free, but they are still in chains.
