  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1 Thess 5:21
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Context, please?

I guess you are unaware of mutations, and the fact that the amount of food on the earth is limited?

I'm talking about how if you really want to ESTABLISH a claim for causation in a scientific experiment, you set up a CONTROLLED LAB and you EXCLUDE other causes, to try to isolate the one cause you are claiming.

Now, if you don't have an example in a lab to study change from one thing to another (bigger change than small species changes, something genus level or higher), that's a HUGE problem -- you don't have a direct lab you can do, in the first place.

And if you want to try to observe natural changes from one thing to another (again, significant change beyond these little species changes, not just micro-evolutionary mutations) -- how much time do you need to really observe it in the lab well from start to finish?

Moths that are grey start to predominate after soot collects on trees, fine. A mule is produced, a mule that cannot reproduce, whatever.

You just don't have an example of bigger transformations and then you say "oh those differences are arbitrary" -- well show me something that naturally mutates and then gets a new functional limb, at least, then? And more than a finger or toe. Not a cripple. Something functional. Something helpful.

Nature is our laboratory.

That may be what you are stuck with, but it is not an ideally controlled lab environment for testing out causes of phenomena or to observe all phenomena.

I'm sure you can look up 1 Thess 5:20 and 1 Thess 5:22 all on your ownio

Arguing that your religion doesn't encourage you to question it is hardly going to help your case though ^_^

And of course, I'd factor in other passages, in context, too:

1 Timothy 6:20 "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:" KJV

2 Timothy 2:16 "But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness." KJV

Ah, yes, those contradictions. "Factor" away.

I mean, "profane and vain babblings", wow, how specific! Almost as specific a concept as "blasphemy", "sexual immorality", "natural law", "playing god" and the like ^_^

Fair enough -- as I said, your point can take a hike.

So your beliefs are so feeble they can't even withstand questioning without you completely ignoring the questions?

If your belief really was true, it should be able to withstand that without you pansying out.

There's a difference in questioning something, and putting something through an inquisition.

I've had my beliefs questioned (or 'tried') here for over 5 years -- right down to the microdetails, and I'm still accused of not answering questions.

So when you yak about 'question all things', I take it with a grain of salt in the dining hall of the local court of inquisition.

The fact that you don't even put your beliefs through basic logical scrutiny is duly noted.

Well, duh, one doesn't follow from the other. You sure do make a habit of not answering questions ^_^

So when you yak about 'question all things', I take it with a grain of salt in the dining hall of the local court of inquisition.

Call me optimistic.

It's just that you seem to make certain Biblical interpretations ex recto and wholly out of context - your little fantasy about Solomon decrying a theory that didn't exist until several millennia later, for example.

Then someone else comes along and does the same thing, and suddenly it's all "weh weh weh inquistion".

I'd say it was down to me being an atheist - but of course, you'd reject the personal interpretations of other Christians who aren't marching in goosestep with your interpretations as well, wouldn't you?

No -- that's your 'little fantasy'; since you left a very important word out.

Here's my 'little fantasy', see if you can spot the word you Arabed out:
Short of calling it a religion, per se, the Bible refers to prescient evolution as a philosophy (Colossians 2:8), endless genealogies (1 Timothy 1:4), and a doctrine hated by Jesus (Revelation 2:15).
A man, gifted of God with wisdom, turns scientist, has apes imported, concludes God made man upright and [prescient] evolution is an invention.
Since [prescient] evolution is not mentioned by name, it isn't in there. Correct?
If it means anything, I use these verses as pertaining to [prescient] evolution:

Ecclesiastes 7:29 Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

Here, Solomon, the man who had apes imported, concludes that [prescient] evolution can take a hike.

Also notice that Solomon is referring to [prescient] evolution as an 'invention', and not a 'discovery' as evolutionists like to think.

I don't know what Darwin refers evolution to in his book, The Preservation of Favoured Races, but Solomon refers to [prescient] evolution as an 'invention'.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Here I interpret 'rudiments of the world' as the atoms, and believe that Paul is warning us to beware of those [scientists] who would 'spoil us' through scientifically-explained paradigms that are nothing more than Satan's philosophies -- this would include evolution.

1 Timothy 1:4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

This is pretty self-explanatory, and notice what company Paul says [prescient] evolution keeps company with?
Paul calls prescient evolution a philosophy; and later, in the book of Revelation, Jesus calls it 'doctrine'.
Señor Koqonfaes needs to be a little more observant, doesn't he?

"Prescient evolution" is your fantasy. It makes no difference to my point, but you have such a habit of trying to worm your way out of tough question this is hardly surprising behaviour from you.

Like I said, creatio ex recto is just fine for you, but not for anyone else, hmm?

And lest we forget, this is a pretty pathetic tangent for the One True Faith - if it actually could stand up to questioning, you'd be all in favour of it, but because it can't you have to make up excuses. Really, if your belief was true, you wouldn't have to resort to such feeble word games.

And does it bother you that gap theorists aren't embedded agers?
They both reject reality and the evidence
How does a gap between Genesis 1 and 2 reject evidence?

The reason why it's called a gap is because it represents an indefinite period of time in which life could have evolved.

^_^ -- I have more fantasies than Walt Disney, don't I?

Your habit of mangling stories is definitely one you share with ol' Walt.

Sorry, I wasn't aware of the widely held doctrine of "prescient" science.

Like I said, you make stuff up from a verse out of context, that's fine - someone else does it, you start whinging about inquisitions.

WOW -- could you please get off that Arab phone?

Just for a few posts, okay?

It's prescient evolution, not prescient science.

Well, you also accept that other Bible verse that's scarcely a line of bad poetry as a prescient reading of the universe expanding, so it's hardly that far off. Now stop making excuses, and address the points:

Like I said, you make stuff up from a verse out of context, that's fine - someone else does it, you start whinging about inquisitions.

In addition, why are you so afraid to question your own beliefs (your not being ordered to like a good little drone aside)?

HAs everyone noted how ToBeInChrist is moving the goal posts? First AV1611VET asks Cabal for the verse that says everything must be questioned. Then sudenly ToBeInChrist comes in and claims context must be taken into account. This afaik is the first time I see a biblical literalist caring about contetxt. I have on the contrary seen biblical literalists distorting bible verses just to make their points. And then ToBeInChrist claims that other verses, from totally different parts in the bible have to be taken into account.

The goalposts, and how to move them...

1 Thess 5:21
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Context, please?

You need to get out more, don't you?
"Context, context, context" --- as we say.
As my pastor used to say: "Context, context, context".

It's all about the dispensation we're in.
First of all, it wasn't 'talked about' -- leaving the reader to extrapolate it from the context, which comes immediately afterwards.
As they say in Hermeneutics 101: context, context, context!
Newbie.
